"It just depends on what they want to be"
I did say that in my post but anyways, CR used to be no.3/4 when I started playing again with NS, SA and JFK.
Now they are 4th: under M which merged, still under NS and PT which exploded after their
You can say whatever you want about merge, but seeing M became no.1 after merge and dethroning the Number.1 is in torn is a good show for people outside of top 10 facs to see. If CR, NS, PT, JFK or whoever the top best factions (regardless of their hate/love for each other) managed to do a successful merge, they might have a chance against M, which definitely will be a good show.
I wasn't trashtalking/ belittling CR when I said I wanted to see CR merge. Facts are CR members are very unlikely to become the top 1 faction in torn. If you are happy where you are, all good. But if you and your members want to take that number 1 spot, you don't have much choices but to merge with another top faction.
disagree with this tbh.
Imo the game is boring as f**k right now and the map is stagnant as heck. Outside of real wars, well we have rw's for a bit of fun. But i can predict how all your rw's will go. You guys will lose to PT/Monarch/NS and smash everyone else, over and over again. At some point it's going to start getting boring. RW's get boring at the top end imo even if your faction is improving rapidly, it's just fun for a short amount of time during a push.
Merging can be extremely fun. We got to try out a massive land war with SA and have a shit ton of fun doing so and, and now maybe even have the strength to try on NS lands and/or CR/PT lands. Imo merging can be a good thing to break out a stagment period and go do something different to cause mayhem on the map.
Like for yourselves for example, you guys could merge and try on NS lands yourselves which makes like x4 what you guys make on CR/PT lands combined. If you lose doing so who cares your members would've have a shit ton of fun doing so.
I know you guys won't merge, but just offering a different perspective.

This is a weird take for reasons basically explained in my original post,
without merging CR would have 4 additional factions to fight and compete with, 3 of which would be close (Milk, JFA, Relentless) and one maybe not so much (Mentos) but at least they could then fight with slightly lower HOF factions.
As it stands now, M merged into first place, leapfrogging NS who merged into first place. M easily beats NS, NS easily beats anyone else, and therefore nothing of interest happens. The solution isn't "more merging" just because all of our competition merged into powers far beyond us.
ME are kinda interesting, but only because they are nowhere near the strongest. And you could have had all of that staying as Mentos

well that would be true without merging you would have a lot closer factions to fight in rws, but my main point is really that rw's are boring compared to TT wars. A large scale tt war with loads of enemies to continuously swat over weeks is a shit ton more fun than rw's where u push for 2 mins forcing the weaker side to turtle, and go back and forth in that.
Yes and no. There are certainly good reasons for some mergers and it can create competition for stronger opponents. However, I totally agree that creating a "super faction" like the one being suggested in this thread is bad for competition (and the game).
The reason the JFA/Milk merge happened was because of The Insurgency. We could either be pushed around by the Insurgency going forward or we could do something about it. Although when NS was created, SA was still widely believed to be the strongest faction. [Side note: An interesting convo would be whether the Insurgency was successful from a long term perspective.]
Would the game be better off if JFA, Milk, Mentos, and R still existed or would it be roughly the same but the chairs would be slightly rearranged? What about the merger of TuS and PnB? Doesn't something like that create competition for stronger factions?

Did your "friends" also buy their accounts?
reality is, they already merged. You can sit there complaining about how merge are bad but as an outsider who enjoys drama, would love to see CR merge, and you and Meanmike talking trash challenging for top 1 spot.
I wonder if his friend’s name begins with D and ends with B.
Whilst valid, it’s all one big domino effect.
Milk wouldn’t have become a top 10 faction if it weren’t for their original merge. (Rockers and SS iirc). They then wouldn’t have caught up to JFK and SA if it weren’t for essentially poaching what was left of HT’s top end. (Not a merger but similar style of mass recruiting).
Likewise, Mentos wouldn’t have been as competitive as it became had it not taken 20ish of LS’ top end.
And then Mentos probably wouldn’t have merged with R* if NS didn’t exist.
To be fair, you can probably blame a lot of the current climate on Myhedin. But also the irony that Insurgency was supposed to put an end to the monopolisation of factions, it actually made it worse. (And less competitive across the top 10-15).

Why would we bother? I don’t know about others but I could not care less about beating monarch.
This is unrelated, but This is one of the biggest things I like about Torn, there is so much history. I like diving into these threads that show us younger players a little light into some of the big events that occurred in Torn and how things have unfolded from there.
No matter what you say about merger...some might find its not fair...but it surely is fun...
Merger gives the lower tier faction with high ambition a hope to fight with the top dogs some day...torn is a game with exponential growth...so whenever we getting stronger a HoF faction getting stronger 10 folds more than us...so if there was no merger option it gets tough to get in the big boy league
And the excitement during the process is fun too...how its gonna work out...the politics part of it...and let's not forget of the endless drama xD

wouldnt surprise me at all
What is so exciting about consolidating power into one area? This serves to only stifle competition. Let me put it this way, when all the strongest players are on one side, who is there to challenge them? We already don't do territory wars because we look at it from a monetary profit or loss viewpoint. By continuing to make super faction after super faction only encourages the dryest, stalest game possible. f**k it, let's just make a faction family comprised of the top 300 players now and be done with it. Sounds exhilarating, huh?
It is almost like in the real world there are regulations to discourage and break up monopolies and then here in the game we have demonstrations of why...
huh!
huh!
TLDR
Smaller factions merge = great success
HOF factions merge = shit in the kitchen sink

I've been thinking this same thing for a long while. A much more interesting power dynamic would be a bunch of similar-ish factions at the top where the outcome could not be predicted. Or the outcome was determined by scheduling and availability or whatnot. Any given Sunday, for you older American football fans. Sadly, this has generally not how torn has progressed. The player base likes to create super factions, and super faction families. And then complain that the game is stale and boring because no one wants to fight.
