Why become an activist ? Speaking as a male of the species and with 50+ years of general experience to draw on, I have the ONE reason. This is mostly for you younger guys, but can be employed at any age. You want to get laid ? You become an activist for some cause. It's the same reason I tell unattractive guys to learn how to play an instrument.

Just take on a cause any cause really. Save the Whales, Justice for ( fill in the blank here ), any and I mean any animal causes. You can go overtly political, but you have to be a bit more nuanced. That's like social justice 202. You want practice, get your feet wet with something everyone can agree with, like saving the planet. You'll never run out of work if you can find a way to make money saving the planet.

Personally, I do have a LABOR bent, but I tell you that the Teamsters is tough and VERY political....AND there are a lot of heavy old truckers and not too many cute women. Just saying.

So, your a young guy and need something to do on a Friday night other than drinking skunk IPA at the local brew pub, listen to the same old useless banter ? You want to pick it up a notch ? You find a cause. And you don't join a group, no...

You become the group. You are now the new head of a chapter of fix or save or do whatever it is you choose.

You are welcome..

This was Mac and Dennis' plan to get laid in the first season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Mickey you realize based on every other opinion you've had, you all strike us as someone who would support unions being crushed and eliminated.

It's fairly straightforward. Every opinion you've espoused fits in with a MAGA right mindset. Part of the right wing agenda is the destruction of unions. This has been most prominent in "right to work" states which prohibit unions from collecting dues from workers unless they are voluntarily given and led to a huge drop in union membership in those states.

They also tend to try to remove as much power from the NLRB as possible

"Just takes on any cause" is exactly why we're where we're at in the first place.

99% of "activists" have no stake in their supposed causes, they're just given a position by their party and they blindly follow along parroting their bullet points, not because they believe in the cause, but they have to espouse that position if they want to remain in that in-group, and if pressed, aren't ever actually able to articulate their views beyond "this or that person said so" or restoring to screaming at and insulting anyone who disagrees with them, and are more concerned with beating the other guy.

Perfect example here of that mentality, these people seeking so shocked that you support unions, because they're so ingrained in that culture that to think anyone else isn't is inconceivable, and the idea of someone not varying their entire belief system on pay lines incomprehensible.

Like unions have anything to with abortions or drag queens or immigrants or Clintons or Ukraine or whatever other number of things that their party's itinerary dictates?

It's why everything is turned into a black and white issue, because once you actually solve an issue, there's nothing to fight over, no way to "rally the troops" and use them to keep themselves in power. "Activists" don't give a shit about the causes they push, they just need something to push towards and couldn't care less about what it is as long as they're able to a part of a group or keep themselves in a position or power.

What a load of crap, of course I have stakes in saving humanity from planetary extinction, I have kids after all, for the rest, do you really need to have to fight for a decent life for all humans, and not just one selected group.

Immigrants die because of bad policies, and although I'm not one( technically I am, but a very fortunate one, because of my skin color and the country I was born) I feel for them and hate this happens, it's called empathy, sadly only empathy is not enough so action is needed, and since a lot of immigrants have a hard enough time to make ends meet, it's just a win others do it for or with them.

It's turned into black and white, because idiots like you just ignore the truth, and people suffer and die from it.

I've never met a pro-union Republican. Always thought it was a contradiction in terms. Nothing to do with the rest of his beliefs.

I've been employed by 2 Unions. I like the concept of them and what they represent. They're needed to promote higher wages and better benefits among private employers if they want to retain employees. But the unions of today seriously lack the same ferocity as the ones we had at the start of the previous century.

Most people in today's time have figured out how to manipulate and use the unions to their advantage in extremely ridiculous fashion. That it's left the unions with a bad reputation most employers would rather pull up shop and move than even having to deal with them.

I could tell you some hilarious stories about what UAW employees used to get away with at the old GM plant here that ultimately made Delphi up and leave the area.

Currently Unions protect the lazy and problem people, while they screw over the good employee and completely f** over those who deserve a raise because they always pick up the phone in the case of call offs, come in bust their a** to do their job and pick up everyone else’s slack, and these good employees often know how to do every position and or work everything in the place.
That’s why the left including the genderborg love these current unions. They can arrive at workplace and do f**k - all, cause drama, followed by crying discrimination when questioned about the problems they caused and lack of work. They get what they want by screwing over people who just come in, focus on their job, and go home.
