I have an inactive spouse of 400 plus days and currently living and paying his PI upkeep, none of which I have an issue with. What I am curious about though is my complete inability to upgrade the island. I am wondering if I am the only one is this kind of relationship and no means to improve PI for merits and better happy. I am not complaining per se however it would be nice to be able to do some House keeping after a certain length of time and wondering if the DEVs have looked at this sort of thing and if others might support such an idea. If this idea does have merit and you can think of how to improve it, please do so and tu all for your time...Lyttle

You cant upgrade the pi because you dont own it.... I get your situation, but why would you want to spend money to upgrade something that can be taken away at any moment. It would be like renovating an apartment …

Also the reason the staff is locked is because lets theoretically say you stopped paying upkeep, you could max the staff and make your spouses networth go negative from something they themselves didnt do
Also just like with most things inactivity shouldn't be a reason to be able to get someone else's stuff. Your spouse is the one who bought the property, even if they go inactive you shouldn't get it just because you married to them. Most other asset's in torn operate like this, the only notable exceptions being factions

Sounds like a nice idea. If spouse is inactive for a certain period one should get access to at least hire staff or fire them. Or maybe even the access to upgrade with the warning that they will not own the upgrade or get refund if they ever come regret their decision. It'll be like gifting an upgrade to spouse.
Would make sense to be able to take the property if the other been inactive for a certain period of time.
But, how about this course of action... either (a) buy your own PI and live there, upgrade as you please and move in and pay your own upkeep and let his build up. (B) do the above and also divorce him so that the lack of unpaid upkeep doesn't affect your happy stat

Stop being a cheapskate and buy your own PI already.
It's a niche problem. I'm also 100% sure that they won't let you do anything to stuff that is owned by another player even if it's your spouse.
I guess the main problem is you dont want to leave spouse after 400 days. And if you buy your PI there is not point in inactive spouse. That would be my thinking. Everyone want that merit 2000 days
And why you just dont rent your own better pi? You still can stay married just you have your own home. Or is there any problem i dont see when you do this besides the renting costs?
You can just get your own PI and let your spouse live in his own dilapidated PI. 400 days without the most Happy you can get is a big missed stat gain opportunity.
Get your own PI! Stop depending on someone who’s not there. But! Keep them as a spouse because you don’t need to worry about them leaving! Hah!

You've only been married to them for 582 days (400 of them they've been inactive), that's not even 2 years of merits, if you were 1-2 years away from finishing the marriage merits I would suggest you just suck it up, but you've got 1418 days till you hit the final 2K days of marriage merit.
Currently you have just shy of 4 years to go till you have all the marriage merits, move on bud.

You're more than 1/4th of the way to max spouse merits, just stick through it.
Rent a better property or get your own to upgrade over time, you can get maxed ones for like 600k/day nowadays.
Stop paying the upkeep entirely and let it pile up, then dip when you're over it. That will be their punishment for leaving you with a non-upgraded PI. Chat me for more toxic tips.

The max happy will keep dropping if the upkeep is not paid. As well
I think only once it reaches like $50m or something crazy like that.
Hemi’s plan is decent, so long as the spouse doesn’t log back on and divorces you because of the unpaid upkeep.
Whether renting a PI right now is a better idea depends on exactly how bad the PI is. $600k rent/day + upkeep (until unpaid upkeep starts affecting happy) could be spent on cans or whatever while staying in current PI), so unless your stats are crazy low it’s probably better to stay out for now and not worry about the happy.

Like 142 days, if my math is right (and longer for OP). But gah, pay your upkeep! This is like seeing a screenshot of someone who needs to charge their phone. Just do it!

Are you telling me that if you go inactive and don’t pay upkeep it doesn’t just kick you out of the property??

I sympathize for your situation but you do have 3 easy options here...
1. Divorce them and marry someone else.
2. Buy your own upgraded island, and move into that one.
3. Rent an upgraded island from another player.
Also, unless things have changed, I'm pretty sure that because you don't own the island, all this time you've been paying the upkeep has been money wasted. That responsibility should fall on the owner of the island.
