What would Torn be like if there were more women and nonbinary folks and proportionally fewer men?

What would it take to make Torn more attractive to women, and make it more likely that they would stick around?

What would Torn be like if all of the men magically disappeared for just one week?

I would love to hear what you think.

We did some of this imagining on the Women of Torn podcast with my co-host Jairyll, Han22, and Discoball.

I abused my powers and listened to it while at work, before releasing it after.  It was a good listen as always!

The guests were interesting as usual.  Was fun to hear Discoball, an avid supporter of TU, and was nice to "meet" Han22 as well

out of all the women that do play i figure a large amount of them are still the boys pretending to be girls to get muneez.  the true female numbers are probably much lower than the game says. i could be wrong but idk.

to answer the question it would probably be a game with less harassment so that could be a big + for some.

regardless hope you all have a good day gaming!

I know this is a serious thread but:
Having a podcast about men disappearing for a week start by an ad by a male voice actor for a mostly male faction is kinda funny

I have playef Be The King before. Most players were asian women. The global chat was mostly about our boyfriend/ husband, kids, fashion, recipe, work, other than about the game ofc.

I don’t think most women will like the commitment and activity needed in torn. Asian Women at least. We have boyfriends/ husbands to please, house chores, work, kids, social gathering, religious meetings, etc.

I have a boyfriend. I serve him meals twice a day, make him coffee, not to mention I have my own house chores and a job to pay the bills. If my sister visits or I have ladies night out, my phone must be off.

It may seem whatever, but during real wars or when you are part of Torn leadership or community, it gets a lot harder.

One time I joined a leadership meeting. My sister called crying about her family issue and I had to help her in the middle of the night. I told my friends about this, but the leader insisted we had a discussion about something.

I tried to reply to the discussion, but the discussion went on for so long. So I snapped and said “this is not my problem”.

Mind you, my tasks were recruiting, making payout sheets, lead chains, negotiating terms, selling his stuff, watching stocks for him  etc. Meanwhile I still did rl stuff. I mentioned the above. I really had no energy left to deal with more things.

Then I had to hear my leader complaining about how disappointing I was. Meanwhile my niece and sister were crying in the car.

I felt like a failure and disappointment for everyone. I was not angry tbh. I thought it was just a cultural gap that my leader just did not understand how important family was for asians.

So I decided to leave the faction. Until now, sometimes I still got f**ked over by the leader and rest of them. But I have family and a boyfriend to take care of. I can’t humanly possibly serve way too many people. The decision was critical and necessary.

Anyway, that’s just to give you a hint as to why it’s hard especially for asian women to play Torn.

American here, family is very important to us too. It's insane that he'd expect you to participate when your sister had a family emergency.

I think there's also a large number of women who don't let on that they are female, to avoid harassment and get taken more seriously. I didn't tell anyone I was female for my first 1.5 years of playing (my gender on my profile showed it but literally everyone assumed I was male, including my faction members and leaders, and I was careful not to correct them). I know of quite a few others who do that, and obviously there will be plenty we don't know about.

Well for westerns family is more about feelings. I see that clearly. But imho the difference is, family is more about duties for us.

from sources i can find about 48% of gamers are female. this cross section is taken from US studies but globally is about the same.

i read your comments about being female and 'undercover' and having seen the behaviour of the younger male players in the chats im not surprised that female players do this.

the number of known female gamers in torn is low tho, could it be the nature of the game? or as i stated above or a combo of both?

By "gamers" does it mean the niche text MMO market, or games in generally? A lot of much more chill games like The Sims or, yes, Candy Crush, are very popular with women, which are some of the best selling games globally, might be how they got that %.
