Well after 2 weeks we decided to come back to our faction

What? Did you rent a faction shell or what? Why would you want to go to the old shell if you have one with higher respect and better bonuses?

After coming back, I promoted the 2 people that stayed with our co-leader during our outing.

For what? Not doing something that objectivelly helps your stat grow which would make you more valuable member?

he felt as if he was entitled to something for holding down the fort even though he was AFK for 7 out of 14 days we were gone. 

Another two massive red flags that should've made it obvious that he should not have access to the vault.

He had access to fund before and never had an issue.

Why would you give someone like this access to the vault in the first place.

You should be giving vault access only to people who actively go out of their way to make their faction better (on top of having actual friendly relationship with them, and even then it's not 100% guranteed you won't get screwed over). From your post it looks like you gave it to the most passive player humanly possible who just got it for basically doing nothing.

Well even the OP/leader is not even a year old so he probably just doesn't understand the sheer timescale torn takes place in.

From a perspective of an older player who's been here for half a decade or more it's obvious that players with only a year or two are still pretty much new and thus aren't as trustworthy as other older players who also already shown their character and have reputation to uphold.

But in the eyes of a new player like op knowing the guy for a few months and having few friendly talks here or there might be enough to convince him that he's trustworthy enough to have vault access.

Still incredibly bad decision. Hopefuly OP learns from this and doesn't do the same mistake again.

You created a huge red flag on your account and likely won't get into any position of trust with serious factions the future. It's a crime game, yes, but 2B is such a small amount to ruin your reputation over.

How you could do something like this to people you've played the game with for however long, I have no idea. It's bad enough to scam randoms, to scam your own "friends" is the lowest of the low. To the OP, big props for stepping in to pay back your own members immediately. Yes, it was your mistake giving vault access, but you've made up for it and unfortunately learned a valuable lesson. Hopefully the guy will come round and at least return something.
