Education in the game is a bit outdated. You pay a small fee and then wait.

We could make it more interesting by tweaking what we have or adding new courses. Adding new courses would be better so older players can enjoy it too.

We could create courses with requirements, like level requirements, stat requirements, crime requirements, and certain amounts of attacks or crits.

Maybe we could add a “test/exam stage” to a course.

For example, we could have a course called “Become the Forger.” The benefit would be forging crimes 10% faster. The requirements would be 5K counterfeiting offenses. The stages/exams during the course could be:

After 5 days, you’ve learned how to use a printer properly and make 10 diplomas as proof.

We could have as many or as few “exams/tests” as we like with the education course. But I think it would add more involvement by the user and give people another reason to do certain crimes (other than just farming the most profitable or expensive ones).

It doesn’t have to be just crime-related. We could boost the use of certain activities across all of Torn by requiring users to complete the “exams/tests” etc.

I just typed this up in a few minutes after a quick chat in faction chat, so it’s not super detailed, but I could definitely improve upon this once I’ve had a chance to think about it more..

Having requirements or completion conditions (specifically for the crime related educations) could also provide a good reason for the “special” outcomes of crimes. For example: Complete all special outcomes in searching for cash to unlock this education..

Potential Ideas/examples for the concept:

Education Name: Become the forger

Course Requirements: Minimum 25 Forging and at least 100 items forge

Completion Reward: Forging crimes 10% Faster

Test/Exam Stages: Stage 1 - Forge 10 diplomas. Stage 2 - Forge 10 prescriptions, Stage 3 - Forge 1 of every item

Education Name: Graffiti Wizard

Course Requirements: 500 Reputation in at least 2 areas

Completion Reward: 10% chance for double reputation gain

Test/Exam Stages:  Stage 1 - Graffiti 25 times in each area, Stage 2 - Graffiti 50 times in each area etc..

Education Name: Critical Attraction

Course Requirements: Performed 10 critical hits across all weapon types.

Completion Reward: 5% increase in critical hit chance on the first turn

Test/Exam Stages: Stage 1 - Get a critical hit on the first turn with “random weapon” Stage 2 - Get a critical hit on the finish hit

I like the concept a lot. They have added more courses recently and changed the UI so it's not like the same system from 10 years ago, but not far off.

I kind of the like the concept of taking classes with exams/tests. This would help further engagement which I believe is something high on Ched's preference list for future updates.

If you put in Education 2.0, would you allow those with completed courses to maintain "credit" on them (i.e. they maintain that bonus and the completed education) and force them into competing new courses, or would you start people over with "fresh" courses?

Yeah the current systems hasn’t particularly had a major update, it just looks a little better than before..

Like you said, incorporating something like this will improve engagement not only for the few ideas I’ve made, but potentially across all of Torn depending on what they would decide to add.

To be honest, you could swing it both ways for new courses as well as already completed courses if you wanted..

For the already completed courses you could just add the exam/test section within in each course (as the wait time part is already completed) as long as they complete the requirements to finish (ie forge 10 diplomas or something..)

Alternatively just add new courses and called them “Advanced courses” or something, to differentiate them from the old system of just clicking and waiting.

As someone who is new to the game, I like this! I didn't know what to expect when I was told to enroll in education, but it does seem a little lackluster with simply hitting a button every 7-21 days. It would also let players who enjoy a particular crime have something new to do after having them all maxed out (something I have seen mentioned a few times).
