And to be clear, prep would mean:
It wouldn't mean cans or FHCs, which would put you behind in the long run.
Been a while since I've posted in here. Good guide. Essentially seems like you're trying to communicate what the time value of money is in the context of Torn. Might be a worthwhile endeavor to expand on that utilizing the time value of money equations such as FV, PV, IRR, PI, etc. The only point of contention with this would be settling on a discount rate which you could ameliorate by suggesting different rates based on the money available for investing. I'd take a crack at it but you're kind of already there with this guide.
One issue with attempting anything more precise is that the numbers are really soft. Viable Investment rates have changed massively, as have can/FHC prices. And constraints have huge effects. Do you hate flying? Do you have the time and energy to run a company? A faction? Be a full time trader? Do you like poker?
Okay so wait until after se training to use this book of ugly e and gold ee. Thanks.
Ugly E should be used in Halloween IMO - you get a return for the E, and can progress your baskets - that is one where you can go all out with cans and it be worth it
Another perspective I read was save 2b for a months of fchs and maybe 99k jumps? But yeah I read that too but I'm so active my e is never full.
If you are having to 'save' to use a book, it isnt worth doing IMO - people are hellbent on min-maxxing books, when they dont have the NW to do so.
If you don't have 2B in the bank, + a good majority of the 20% ROI Stocks, its a waste of money imo and better to save
And… as this guide is meant to explain: actually min-maxing a book means not spending
2b of FHCs in a month isn’t optimal, it’s a stunt. It’s an investment in stats like buying a new car is an ”investment”
I used my ugly energy book 2 years ago during halloween. And i started it on first day wanted to use it for whole month but after halloween was over and four days later i stopped it because it was not worthy of the spent money.
you CAN decide to change plans as you go. You just need to have a very good understanding of what you are capable of and your limits. Unless you don’t mind going bankrupt and leave the game.
Addictions are bad. Opportunities always come again. Change is slow in this game. This game is longterm. These are the inferences i usually base my logic and plan on.
Isn't optimal? The only other option I see other than maxing your refill use is spending less time in torn do you can wait more than 5 hours in between trains. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If your actually using naturally energy you are doing the opposite of utalizing it?
OK, so if you've read the guide, you'll see that while spending 2b on FHCs under Ugly Energy is better than spending 2b without the book, but it is not as good as spending 2b on SEs a couple of years later.
So using Ugly Energy is optimal when you need a huge burst of E for something other than training. So any energy-using event. King of all is Halloween, but maybe war/elims/dog tags/competition, as well?
I like this. I can't wait to use it next time someone asks me about books.
Most years for the past few years, using FHCs to train even with ugly energy gives you fewer gains per $ spent than using medium or low e cans without a book would. So training on UE FHCs is actually suboptimal even if you don't consider the other points made in this post.
Ugly Energy is a book that lets you cram more energy into a shorter period of time, not a book that lets you gain more energy for cheap. That makes it an event book rather than a training book for anyone who isn't already a whale using 4 FHCs a day 24/7 until SE point.
But even if it was better gains per $ than non-book cans, the point of this post was really that we shouldn't be seeing SE point as a point in the game where the rules of what is good value for money change, because the vast majority of us can't afford to max our boosters on the best possible cans then 4 SEs a day forever later. The rules of what's "worth it" at SE point hold right from the start, when you take the long-term perspective, because money can be held until the point where spending on SEs is giving you those best gains. And better still, while you're holding it for that, it's making you more money.
To simplify radically, imagine you want to buy oranges in real life, and they cost $10 for 5 today, but you know they'll go on special for $5 for 5 tomorrow. You're better off waiting til tomorrow even if you want 10 oranges, because you can buy 10 tomorrow for a total of $10 instead of buying 5 today and 5 tomorrow and spending $15. Both the person who waits a day and buys them all then and the person who buys 5 each day, at the end of tomorrow, will have 10 oranges. Only the impatient one will have spent more to get them. Alternatively the person who waited can afford to buy 15 oranges, for the same money as the person who didn't wait.
The only reason to pay the double price today is if you want to have eaten all the oranges by the end of day 2 and are worried you can't eat 10 in one day so need to start early (that's the people who have the cash to spend on 4 SEs a day forever when they get to SE point), or if you really just love oranges too much to wait a day and want some right now even though that's gonna cost you more (that's the people who have incredibly ambitious early stats goals and don't care if that's setting them back longterm, hence the quantify your impatience thing).
Now I want an orange…
But what if shop owner nerf oranges...
That's honestly a legitimate concern here, and it's one reason why I went for the quantify your impatience approach specifically in order to be able to afford to use a shit ton of SEs relatively early, and then spammed my NW down on them. I don't trust the game will stay the same enough to put off using SEs into the far distant future like I'd have had to if I spent lots of my income on cans early in game, or if I only wanted to fund SEs with passive income. I was impatient enough to not wait more than 4 years, but also patient enough to save hard until then and to get my SE stat to 4.5b first, snowballing my passive income into more income rather than feeling like I could afford 12 cans a day or whatever.
Anyway you fight with peers around you or can bully people below you. So however the rules change, unless you have some particular individuals you want to beat, the lot you can play with won’t change.
for me it’s only efficient use of my money where i can get more from my money.
and getting SEs on passive income is the sweetest of all. So trying to maximise my passive and it has limits.
That's also an incredibly important consideration and why I don't really understand people talking about SE monsters as "pay to win". They aren't winning anything. Beyond a certain point, stats gains only make the game less fun, because there's fewer challenges, wars become purely about energy available and no other considerations, the gear you use doesn't make a difference so there's no point min-maxing that...
The trillion statters I know are mostly bored af.
Getting to the top of your faction roster even kinda makes things less fun because you'll be the first to be locked down in any challenging war, and will get to do very little besides being an e sponge.
I think the real win is pulling your stats up to where you are competitive in wars of whatever rank your faction tends to engage in, or MAYBE til you are able to beat like 95% of Torn. More than that and your money is being spent mostly for the fun of seeing numbers go up rather than any practical benefit.
I very much agree with this
Most stat books need 2b+ in NW to be spent on them
IMO, if you don't have 50b+ NW, you will struggle afterwards from the loss of passive income from having sacrificed so much NW on a book
If for any reason, you couldn't log in for a month or so, those gains are lost, and so is your NW that earned you money and let you afford drugs and refills and such
50b might be considered to be on the high side of when to use, but it is the safest NW to have before spending so much on a book so that you do not lose out and find the game hard again from not having cash to afford to pay for what you want
Using Ugly E on an attack event like Halloween is possible the very best use of it in terms of how many more attacks and treats you can earn to benefit yourself
