Torn mobile

Now, bear with me... I woulda put this in Q&A, but it's more of a discussion kinda thing.

I'm no luddite, but have a decent laptop, and a basic text / phonecalls, er mobile, and that's all I really need. But I'm also on contract (seriously, my mobile costs £6 monthly.)

Really not a fan of smartfones, Ms. and kids have 'em (I dont) n spend way too much time on 'em imo.

I'm now due for a free upgrade, so its tempting, but from what I've heard, and read so far, Torn mobile isn't really all that, ranked war lags, comps, etc. (I.e., I'd be better off with my laptop.) And it can take quite a bit of getting used to. Seriously (braces for ridicule here) about 4 or 5 years back, net was down for ages in our area, and only managed to log in using my mothers fone, that was just so I didn't nuke my activity streak. It was awkward to use, but that may be cuz of tech 5 years ago / her fone / both.

Only reason I'd consider it would be 1) free smartfone. 2) free smartfone. (and yes, braced for "just get one and find out" too)

Was just after some pro's / cons, from people who actually use it, for opinions, mebbe even some screenshots?

EDIT: Just to clarify, smartfones were not prevalent in our house 5 years ago, we were poor af. Also (EDIT EDIT, I don't use scripts either.)

TornPDA is the app I use for Torn while on mobile, and while I find I'm a little clunkier playing on it compared to PC, I find it a great alternative to desktop when I'm away from home or just curled up on the couch.

Though if you feel you guys are using smartphones too much now, having quick and easy access to Torn might not help you in that regard.

Pros:

• Easy, convenient access to Torn while on the go
• Script injection without needing another service like Tampermonkey
• Can get notifications on your phone for your cooldowns
• Basically a pocket version of desktop Torn

Cons:

• Requires a doom slab Smartphone
• Can crash/lag depending on scripts used
• Allows for the concept of "setting alarms for 3am Xanax"

I find mobile way more convenient since im usually too busy to sit down and play. Managing basic stuff is pretty reliable on mobile, but i could see issues with more in-depth content.

I play 100% PDA. 

Don't have any issues with it. Would recommend.

I pretty much only play on mobile, for last several years, it’s fine.

I got torn PDA and i use it more than the Pc version of torn, i just got my things here already set up like scripts and i love the interface and settings, never going back to the normal mobile torn

I play 99% on mobile. I use mobile browser and I don't use scripts. *gasp* I'm competitive and imo successful. If you look at my wars over the last year, I'm in the top almost always, we don't take deals, I almost exclusively participate in pushes only and I leave the farming to my members so they can make money. 

I don't say all that to toot my own horn, but to simply illustrate that you're not going to be limited in your gameplay. If you're of the generic opinion of "people spend too much time on smartphones" then there's nothing that you will have difficulty accomplishing in torn. (And that's no intended slight, in case it comes off that way).

The biggest con for me is that my competitiveness has reached it's likely limitation playing on mobile. I am better than some PC players, but I think for the PC players with my same drive, I "can't" compete with them as easily or as often.

I do 50/50, for some tasks I use my pc with torn on the background, but TornPda + some handy scripts and timers make it all very easy. I know a lot of people who even prefer the native Torn app, as it's a bit faster.

Some say that RW is actually better on mobile (TornPDA) but I couldn't figure it out well enough yet to be better for me compared to laptop. I also do the first 10 minutes of the day (Duke mission, 100 items bought from NPC store, verve usage + refill) on my laptop, but I could do that almost as easily from the phone too.

Besides these, all other activity is from mobile since I'm always busy with something IRL and the phone is at arm's reach wherever I am, whatever I'm doing. Reminds me to take the xanax, to train the energy, to fly back from China and so on.

Pretty much exclusively on mobile, using mobile browser with zero scripts, etc. I have had PDA but stopped using it as had some repeated log-out issues.

I am at the point that if I try to play desktop, it feels alien. I pretty successful within what I want to get from Torn, and feel that my lack of script or discord use holds me back more than using mobile. But I’m out working all day, and when I do sit at my desk at home, Torn isn’t my desktop game of choice.

I use mobile 100% of the time.  Desktop is easier but until I buy a new laptop, which I really don't plan on doing, I'll be on mobile lol it's definitely clunkier but I'm able to do basically everything I did on desktop.  Even during wars it still works relatively well and I'm on a POS phone too.

I have had phones where torn mobile was basically unusable but that was on the world's oldest iPhone.  As long as you're not trying to use an iPhone 6, you should be good imo

I only play mobile on browser. It's mostly fine.

I tried PDA early on and it's slow as shit so I just went back to browser, but if that doesn't pertain to your playstyle, it does offer a lot of QOL features that the game should just already have.

I’m 95% time on torn pda . Its has so many adjustable options that you can do pretty much everything. There is some minor bugs but its not something that will bother you a lot. 

I play exclusively on torn pda on my phone except for when I have to do something with code on my laptop (RARE).

I have been complimented by a diamond faction member for how fast I was.

During elims I managed to get 8 out of a 10 chain last night in under 2 minutes, while being hospitalized (yes hospitalized) twice, and then wrapped up the tenner, used my nerve and self hosped. (Another faction member in a different team brought my 10 chain up to 15... This has not been my only tenner during elims, even when using e cans, Xanax and/or energy refills mid chain... In fact easy items makes taking items faster on mobile, PLUS I can use two 👉📱👈 hands to quickly access two different ends of the screen instead of moving a mouse or cycling through buttons with the tab key 😈).

So any lag issues are not world ending here. Even if PDA does crash during random attacks lol.

There isn't really anything I can add on the mobile gameplay topic, other than that versions of TornPDA since v3.8.3 have been encountering a host of functionality issues. Such as, the inbuilt browser jumping back 2 pages instead of 1, then refusing to go forward.  The app being generally more fragile (crashing frequently, freezing occasionally, making actions I haven't told it to; such as posting this prematurely, when my finger was nowhere near the post button. 🤷🏻)  Just some things to be aware of, most of them have been reported in the TornPDA thread, so they'll hopefully get fixed.

Besides these issues, it's definitely the best thing to use on mobile devices.  Some mobile browsers run Torntools (among other extensions and userscripts) which can be a useful backup but, they're not as seamless as the TornPDA app can be at its best.

Edit: there's also a TornPDA Lite app, which is made by the same person as TornPDA (Manuito) and may function slightly smoother, with it being a more lightweight app (which I presume means, fewer features,) however, I've never directly used it myself.  If you like barebones over bells 'n' whistles then, it might be a good starting point on your first smartphone. 

Spoiler alert; "smartphones" aren't that smart, they're pretty dumb, in fact.  😂

However, on the mobile phone use in general, I've found it's a good idea to remind yourself that the phone is just a tool, a utility, to be used as you need it.  For example, when you lift it up to do something specific, don't let yourself get distracted or dragged down a rabbit hole with the things your phone can do.  Simply, pick it up, do the thing and tell yourself to put it down and continue with your day.  It's helped me stay focussed when I've got more important things going on.  😎

I'm 100% phone / pda .. no issues for me ... I'm UK too !

Pros .. extremely convenient

Cons .. extremely convenient

I play PDA almost 99%, the active events are easier on computer but day to day play it makes it so much more convenient to train, crime etc and therefore it improves your game

The healthiest player will play laptop for wars and phone for trains

The only time I don't play on my phone is when I need to stack tabs for competitions. Otherwise mobile all day everyday. The biggest feature I use is the long press on names to pull up the quick menu, super easy with a touchscreen. I also order my icons to be convenient at the top of my screen, which made gameplay a lot easier since you have to swipe to see everything.

I use mobile all the time. I've set my smartphone to desktop mode and use my phone sideways or rotated if you wanna get technical. I do really well until a RW with a long list of members. Also it's seems a small difference in load time when they come out the hospital compared to everyone on computers,or me picking a target is a challenge. I have to scroll to see all the list. With that problem I have to rotate my phone horizontal and now full list but super small. I do have the latest smartphone and was extremely excited it was almost as good as a computer. Slightly different but almost as quick.

Torn pda on mobile is decent but don't expect an immediate notification or you will be mugged or whatever. I recently started using it for giggles and was like iit might be great. Well great it's not. Timers are slow to notify so I was mugged a few times experimenting with it. So setting timers on the smartphone is more accurate. 

I move a lot and can't plan much stuff.

So 100% mobile player.

Most of other stuff has turned to mobile too. Spreadsheets, documents, scripting you name it, raspberry pi still doing some stuff 24/7 anyway and one linux pc for hmm removing some obstacles.

Mouse,keyboard and bigger screen is only thing missing from my phone. So small on screen keyboard and some stuff only work in other devices. Mouse helping. Anyway...

All extra you need is Torn PDA which has nice features.

Mobile connections suck sometimes, but my Windows PC is from Jurassic era.

Edit. Some websites not working well with mobile and on demand video...I power on T-Rex.
