Funny how it's not considered bug abuse or illegal, but the player had to cheat to get the negative balance and then gets to profit off his cheating? I don't see how you are allowed to profit off your cheating and it be allowed. At the end of the day, the player selling the item cheated to be able to get in the position to take advantage of another player; it really makes no sense.
Is abusing negative money on hand a fair mechanic?

"Abusing a mechanic"
Lolololol
Is abusing the api mechanic with mug scripts and tons of other unfair shit, fair?
If it's a mechanic, the community will, can, and should find a way to abuse it, it only becomes an "exploit" when their system is basically FUNNELING $$ to their account that no one else is aware of. Mate literally had a warning bounty on him... i'm thinking skill issue or lesson learned for OP, no need for an uproar over this when api abuse exists at a more gamebreaking scale. 🤣🤣🤣 iS iT fAiR that i got zewo monies wah 🤣🤣🤣 be so for real. Yes, it's fair 🥲
I think the downsides of having negative money outweigh the niche benefits.
Also if we imagine the potential alternative, choose stuff to sell until you're at 0 could be unreasonable to the player.
Imagine you gamble most of your illicit winnings away, then have to receive a balance correction from staff. You dont have the winnings in stocks or bank, so they force you to offload other things.
They remove all your xanax and weapons because those are expensive, you still cant pay enough so they sell your PI back to the bank. All your items get sold off but you still cant pay, so they give you a negative balance anyway.
Seems like a hassle for mods, and potentially debilitating for players. Even if an offender has a huge networth, the punishment has to be applicable and fair to everyone at every level.
Its not a scam but im gonna lay out how they profit here since nobody seems to see it.
P1 gains 3b in bookies
P1 buys 3b worth of SEs (6 SEs worth 2.7b)
Staff canex the game and revoke 3b, including the 300m remaining after SEs.
P1 is negative 2.7b on hand and 2.7b worth in 6 SEs.
P1 mugbaits to sell SEs at 470m. 6 SEs listed at 470m each are worth 2.82b.
P1’s SEs sell and they pay their debt, with 120m remaining from the sales.
edit to note, my frustration with this is not the mugbait or me thinking someone having their bets cancelled should be punished. This mechanism allows cheaters that have had huge sums of money removed to profit indirectly from their cheating so long as they have assets to liquidate.
Have you considered taking their items from inventory based on current MP value if they were taken into negative money due to abuses/cheating?
for example, current parachute value is $448,349,998, so if their balance is -3b, you take anything in their inventory as long as their market value reaches 3b.
if they don’t have enough items, any item they obtain will be directly taken away from them until the balance
instead of negative balances, just steal their inventories xD
Could you seriously stfu?
This is the dumbest take. LustDragon69 intentionally did something knowing that he'd either get easy winnings OR at worst, would be able to utilise a negative balance for easy trades.
Internationally doing it to get that outcome would be bug abuse, but nobody here had suggested that Sqall took whatever action that ended up with him having a negative balance, just so he'd get a negative balance.
They are two very different things and you giving a braindead take over and over doesn't make them the same.
You're acting like they didn't already take back the money less than a day later. Same thing happened to Sqall. Whether intentional or not is irrelevant, if torn had correct odds for bookies it wouldn't have even happened in the first place.
This is in no way about a debt...
Duke offers loans that function in the way you're describing.
This is about the way devs rectify a mistake in the in game bookies.
Again, dumb take.
'Exploiting' a bug requires intention, which LustDragon69 had...among a number of other things.
He INTENTIONALLY exploited a bug for benefit and got a perm ban for it. He fully intended to either exploit the bug for immediate profit or to exploit the dev response for profit.
He F'd around and found out that the intentionally seeking to exploit those things meant he wasn't able to profit at all.
Case closed.
Just have their title manually changed to "Debtor" when adjusting the balance until a positive balance is achieved during automatic title checks.
Its not a glaring added "careful" button on some screen, but would be a quick check for those that bother to take a look when going to attack.
And since it's on the profile page, maybe would deter "direct attack link" scripts. Eh... probably not, but would be nice.
illegal gambling gains? huh??
I didn't realize - money on hand was possible, but wouldn't any money coming into the account just pay into the negative balance? meaning they're actually losing money twice because they had to pay the negative. just curious as I didn't know this was possible. but it seems neither side has anything to gain here
why does the staff remove 3b from their bookie winnings tho?
You can lay it out anyway you want, they did not profit, your friend fell for paying an overpriced cost thinking it would be an easy buy mug, it wasn't. The person they mugged made no money from the sale as they had a negative balance and now they're down 6SEs, according to the bounty placed on them they were not in the profit from the sale and had your friend used game mechanics that exist they would have known the person they were mugging was in negative cash on hand.
Your frustration quite clearly is with the mugbait and you're simply defending your friends stupidity rather than trying to think of a fair and balanced response to people being in negative money.
Let me lay it out because a handful of people seem not to see it
- Someone gains from something when they shouldn't have(whether it was intentional or not is irrelevant)
- Someone has money removed from their account, they decide to sell some assets to clear their negative funds, doing so at a price higher than market value
- At some point someone has a bounty placed on them stating they have negative funds
- Enter enemy combatant who decides they have an easy buy mug target, they ignore the bounty and game mechanic that allows them to check how much cash someone has on hand
- Enemy combatant proceeds to spend over the market value on SEs and tries to mug someone doing so they find out someone was in the negative
- Enemy combatant is down 3b whilst someone is down 6 SEs and still in negative funds.
Everyone is a loser and people need to stop blindly defending their friends when they make stupid mistakes.
I think it's always funny to see a mugger get shat on.
Not abuse.
How about when I've been a bad boy and Mommy tells me I'm gonna get spanked? That is a punishment that can be flipped to my advantage UwU
In order to consider this abuse, that would imply that people are going to intentionally get negative balances just to avoid being mugged.
This would be the stupidest exploit ever lol
Edit: This is like that Key and Peele skit where the criminal finds the perfect con and explains a job.
If you're still confused about what got lusty thrown in the slammer I invite you to study my pfp
The idea that someone is going to risk their account to make a couple hundred mil profit is absolutely ludicrous and screams scraping the barrel for a reason as to why this should be changed immediately rather than admitting you're stupid and you just wanted an easy pay day.
You are not going to win any arguments with logic in a thread where people are having a hard time comprehending how selling an item for more than what it's worth is profitable
I'm 100% in favor of anything that can screw over buy/muggers f**k THEM!!!!
