Would be nice to see more incentive to win wars in the form of some passive reward for the winning faction that can't be traded.

Maybe something like 3% extra gym gains for one week or such. Incentivise using the energy to war and make terming a min-maxed decay score a last resort really.

I would worry that in a situation like this the richer faction will simply purchase the win from the poorer faction to get the reward.

If these changes begin to establish a proper ladder of factions that is genuinely reflective of their RWing ability/strength are passive or untradable rewards something that could be considered to incentivise competiveness and thus real wars?

I have no interest in ranked warring. It's a grind that brings a lot of money hungry bad behaviour out in the game. I miss old territory wars. I miss dog tags especially. Bring that back. It was much more fun.

This would almost certainly happen in lower and mid-tiers. Net worth amongst the Hall of Fame is probably more negligible, so less likely unless its a signifcant buff.

Yet, it could be an interesting case study. The current "meta" argument to real wars is they are expensive. Yet Factions (myself included) give players 90+% of their income back to players. With players (not all) in turn still feeling like a faction should fund war costs etc. I.e., it's a self-fulfilling argument/point of view.

Whilst that branches off into other discussion topics, if more money was rolling into the "smaller" factions from bigger ones, through ranked wars, does that not create more challenges to manage? Examples being larger factions have to be stricter with spending and smaller factions no longer able to argue they don't have the funds to war. The net result being more wars are likely to happen.

Hypothetical until tested of course, yet I wanted to throw it out for discussion.

What an abominaton. You're lobotomizing the current system to shove in stat based matchmaking that's supposed to morph over time into skill based matchmaking as if skill is the problem. Terms happen because there is an optimal score gap. Without addressing this you will never fix the problem.

Incentivize large score gaps. Remove divisions and let factions compete on one leaderboard. Replace war rewards with a monthly rank reward based on "war points". War points are calculated on flat score AND score gap. So if you want monthly rank #1 and best rewards you have to fight 4 times a month and win by a large margin. This will create a leaderboard where the facs at the top are the ones actually trying.

Great start, very happy to see this, the increase in green looks encouraging.

One of the issues I still seem to have with the whole ranked war setup, and reason why people end up terming: honest and good ranked wars are just too expensive.

In between needles, mercs, revives, xanax, a proper all out slugfest is a net negative for both teams.

In that sense, I'd like to see some changes, and in my opinion, these could be quite far reaching:

  • Reduce energy needed for attacking opponents & own faction by 10 or 15 energy during the war --> more attacks, while also being net doable with limited energy to "self merc"
  • Reduce energy needed for reviving your own faction by 10 or 15 during the war and always allow revives to full life when coming from your faction mates, supplement this with a new revive setting: faction members only

That still leaves costs of temps, xanax for the war, but should hopefully reduce the costs of actually slugging it out.

I truly believe people want to slug it out during these faction wars, but if every "even" matched war ends up in a net negative for members / leadership, it'll stay with terming by default.

Happy to consider other ideas as well for ranked wars.

Before I reply, I would like to note that R- bombing is rude.

Now. To answer the question, they could keep losing but their rating will continue to drop until they start winning 50% of their wars. Pedro explained the rating system a bit better. So to stay at their rating they would need to win 50% of their wars, just like everyone else will have to.

Divisions will be assigned after rating assignment, not before, like it is now. So the more factions rated above them, the lower their division will be.

Matchups will be based on rating, not division (rank) as it is now.

Edit -

After talking with my co-lead just now this change will likely be very good for our time management, as we would be able to rely more on our faction members and just settle at our natural rank based on our faction's abilities. A bit more training on more advanced war tactics and I think our chain leaders will have the night shift covered.

Really starting to look forward to this change.

Thank you Pedro for explaining this better!!

I think the payout system should probably stay as it is. But,I like the idea of a win streak providing some passive benefits to incentivise winning but I would like to see them be kinda RNG based and only useful for warring. So there would not be much point to game a win streak unless you intend on doing a proper war.

Could be simple things such as a reduced hit to your revive chance per rev for the next war, or less med cd used per med item... small attacking buffs etc just something to give a minor edge in a close war and nothing particularly OP

I'm a new player so I'm not sure of the historical context. Has the dev team considered lowering rewards for losers as a potential fix for terming wars? How far down on your solution list is this to prevent termed wars?

CorneliusIII [2470308]

It's a step in the right direction...

If you want fun and lucrative warring I think there needs to be an incentive for continued warring, while reaching score and waiting on decay needs to be discouraged.

If termed wars only had 10% of the normal payout I bet there'd be a big reduction in terms. If the remaining 90% was added to payout pool for real wars next week, real wars would be worth fighting.

For those concerned about RW income, make a suggestion for "ranked negotiations", ranked WAR is supposed to be fighting...

I like the idea of a monthly(or 6 monthly, or yearly) RW leaderboard too, but only if terming doesn't count as a win.

Lowering rewards for the losers specifically feels very low down the solution list (although you're very welcome to try and convince me why you think it would work), but seeing if there are ways we can fix the cost/reward ratio is high.

D3vl [710249]

What is just fucked is how you and chedburn thinks, and the entire game is a bloody proof of it.

Keep refusing to listen to OGs suggestions, will be the downfall of Torn.

Lewiss [2012107]

give factions passive bonuses AFTER wars based on effort and don't show what the reward is until after, maybe you get a reward maybe you dont, the argument that richer factions will pay for wins is kind of irrelevant since factions can and already do pay for wins

JL0ve [3680590]

The issue is that the definition of "termed" can be a grey area.

Yes, at the outset when 2 factions agree on a winner, score and timeframe, that is obvious.

Many of our wars for example start as real wars, then when it becomes apparent that one side has an unassailable lead, generally we agree on terms.  In this "termed Vs real" rewards, where do scenarios like this fit?

If it's a reward reduction because it's a termed war, then thereis zero incentive to look to find a solution to speed things up when the winner is obvious.

Wrath [2137380]

incentive and profitability are always going to play into ranked warring hard..... like people only do so much as long as its profitable ... as soon as your fwing and making a loss its easier to give up or term it out. even if there was no profits to rwing and all factions had to have mandatory RWs every week i feel that without the right system they would both just do nothing with zero effort until the time ran out. there needs to be a system that benefits EACH player other than just the FACTION as a whole to make each USER be apart of the WAR and feel they are getting what they put into it so they can fight for thier benefit and thier factions as a secondary thing.

Alvara-X [2678496]

Hopefully these changes end up being a good thing and don’t mess with the RW system more than it already has.

Really excited to see how it all plays out, and it’s nice to see Torn actually moving forward in the right direction.

RyanS96 [2169567]

Sadly this is the way that a lot of Torn thinks. It is why a change is so desperately needed, too. Ranked warring shouldn't just be a money printer for any loser with a cache farm.
