my idea is simple yet brilliant, the default mail looks boring so that would be the basic mail but here is my idea:

what if you could use points to buy custom mail, this would include custom colours for the Email and different fancy swirly bits at the bottom, perhaps even custom emblems for the mega rich!

Torn's mail system actually utilizes the same BBCode system that the forums do, so it's already possible to make very customizable mails, it's just a matter of knowing how to use said system.

Mm, to an extent, yes, but BBCode (BulletinBoardCode) is an extremely simplified form of "coding" with a similar structure to HTML, which is widely considered to not be a formal coding language. But that's besides the point.

In the forums editor, there's an icon you can click in the very bottom right of the toolbar under the text box that looks like this: { }

Clicking that enables the BBCode editing where you can format however you please. There are plenty of tutorials and guidebooks online of how to use BBCode, and it's super easy to pick up and use, but admittedly, complex things like the fancy background graphics are more difficult of a thing to learn to add. It's very doable, and really, anyone can learn how to do it, but you do have to actually learn how to do it.

Now, if you want to get into them bringing back the BBCode testing forums, that's something I can 1000000% get behind. It was a great space to just tinker around and see what you could accomplish.

I just wanted to pop in here and say that at some point in the last few years (I honestly couldn't tell you exactly when), the text editor shifted from BBCode to HTML. It looks like most posts from the BBCode era were retroactively updated in some way to work under the HTML system, so old posts should still be visible. But if you want to send personalized mail (or create personalized templates, mail, etc for others), the system to learn would be HTML, not BBCode. Apologies for the misinformation. To make up for it, please enjoy this video of babies laughing:

Oh very much so! You just have to have an understanding of HTML markdown. There are plenty of guides online, though admittedly, HTML is a mite more complicated than BBCode, imo. But, just as an example, you can do cool things like...

Change your typeface and size to be Comic Sans 21px (which is not a size option on the basic editor)

Be more selective about your colours, like Magenta here

And many many more things. It's just a matter of figuring it out.
