Banning of third party casinos

I didn't realize the gambling forum was flooded in them, or that they were DDOSing eachother which I first found out by one that wanted to start one but was concerned about that, then another that was attacked.

The other thing that surprises me is not how many want them gone (I expected that) but how many want them gone for DIFFERENT reasons.

Every single time I read about this, there is really just more questionmarks coming up.

Last time I read bogie speak about an extension, it was implicitly stated Torn Casinos are "one thing", but an extension literally introducing pets into the game was "quite another", putting said extension up as the breaking point. As if Casinos, particularly those that simply circumvent self-exclusion, were alright & your TORN pet horse would be hellsent in comparison.

Now, "initially this was not seen as a particularly high concern".

Alas, you waited before those Casinos gained traction to the point there is a new one popping up every other week, and now as people seem to apparently like them, that is when you want to first intervene???

I get that making a fuss out of something that hasn't gained traction yet isn't feasible, but the way in which this particular issue is handled - most ironically at one of the very few corners where it would have been completely reasonable to make a fuss out of it as early as possible due to the implications of the content - it just throws additional questionmarks with every single new post regarding this.

Though I'm glad the TORN pet extension has finally made someone aware that external services circumventing your own options particularly in a corner where users can genuinely come in harms way due to addiction might not be okay.

Seeing casino owners NW increasing so much is the real telling of how is a cooked scheme to grab your money 

Just some dumbass would think casino is the go to to gain money especially third party ones with odds and mechanics you can't even check 

The vulnerability in the code can happen to any 3rd party site like tornstats and others. pinpointing it specifically to 3rd party casinos doesn't seem fair to me.

We can provide a security review or pentest summary if this is a concern.

As for the RMT concern about buy-ins, this could also happen for any sort of service provider.

Example : $1b payment for BSP but I dont plan to use it and just receive real money.

I’m sure there’s a few strings he can pull that states all online casinos using torns fake currency must put in TOS that no legal action will be taken against players who exploit vulnerabilities and bugs that doesn’t give irl information, or get illegal information.

Get rid of them, if people want to bet items or bet for items, Torn could easily add it's own regulated version.

Thats not true, theres a saying that applies to every casino wherever it may be, the house always wins, even if the odds are almost 50/50, if you have billions circulating daily, youll still make huge amounts of money, and have"fair"odds

I dont think they should be banned but more oversight and transparency is definitely required. 

As with anything its up to the individual to be mindful of there actions. I join some when I wanna but I also use my best judgment to determine if its a scam. If its a scam ill not use there services anymore. Ultimately its just fun and games.

That is absolutely not how the law works (in any commonwealth or european, or USian domain I know of)

Private companies cannot extend legal immunity for actions taken on their behalf

I know, but ched could add something to his TOS stating that any online casinos using torn’s currency must state that they won’t take legal action against abusing bugs and exploits. It’s not like I’m stealing irl money if I get their vibecoded websites and trick the website into thinking they owe me 200m. A Torn’s casino should follow Torn’s law. Scamming is encouraged, so let’s scam the scammers. 

Raffles and giveaways in discord use yata bot or something similar( I think) any 3rd party things should be considered RWT, they are paying money either from torn or irl to gamble whether they spend money through the torn donator packs. There are already several ways to lose 100s of irl dollars in the game alone, which has the feature of exclusion (which is great) while these sites are made to give players an unfair advantage by "being house". It'd be like giving one player all the money lost from the casino everyday. Ive done math on how much it cost to get 1 trillion dollars in torn, its thousands of dollars yet these people are gaining billions off these scams. Also just cause we talk about it, green leaf should not be able to get lottery jackpot, theres several multi accounts a week that aren't caught. Ive been playing torn for a few months and have seen at least 3 or 4 green leaf win billions of dollars when ive been pumping enormous amounts a week tryna get it once. Had to stop because it was eating into my irl funds. Just a thought tho

I agree specially with the point Waywardsquid made about the security issues a vibe coded site can have, having those multiplying like bacteria will eventually lead to some trouble because some wont even care about checking for that. And most of the stuff in the gambling side has already been said so back to 🍿🍿🍿🍿

All those casinos are mostly violating RMT rules. They could be — and probably are — used for RMT, and they cannot prove otherwise. I remember when EVE Online banned them for exactly the same reason: RMT.

If they don't get you with the odds, they get you with the hookers and booze.

I wanted to throw my perspective into this as someone who has been running one of these servers since January 2025.  Like any service/business/casino, obviously profit is a goal, and I won't dispute that. That said, profit has always been secondary for me. We use a third-party programmer (Stig) to create the games and odds, which keeps everything automated, fair, and prevents the admins from being able to manipulate outcomes.

Believe it or not, the main reason I've continued operating it is simply because people seem to enjoy it, and I get a lot of personal enjoyment out of it as well. There's honestly something pretty cool about seeing someone hit a big win in a casino game or win a high value raffle (especially with low odds) and then being able to transfer their winnings, whether that's cash or items, back to them in Torn.  Something I imagine many of those players enjoy as it's a more safe way for them to gamble and receive their winnings instead of racing to deposit Torn winnings prior to being hit by a mugger.

I absolutely understand the arguments against these services, especially now that there seem to be so many popping up and apparently some are operating unscrupulously. I don't think those concerns should be ignored.  I would just hate to see all of these services lumped together because of the actions of some. There are legitimate differences between a service that is trying to exploit or scam players and one that is simply trying to provide another fun activity for the community.

I obviously have a personal stake in this, so take my opinion for what it's worth, but I'd really hope we could find some sort of compromise that addresses the bad actors without eliminating what has honestly been a pretty fun aspect of Torn for me and the people who use my server.

Services exist because there's demand for them. Maybe the best thing Torn could do, is introduce these gambling games into torn natively, so people can have their fixes and not rely 3rd party apps. 

Even though the games already exist in some capacity, they are dated in graphics and lack the aesthetics, sounds which perhaps, charm and attract players.
