Announcement here from Chedders.

I plan to make the following changes to relics...

- A relic's effect lasts until the creature from which it was obtained is summoned again, after which the relic withers away.

- When a relic loses its effects, it transforms into a withered variant that serves as a permanent collectible.

I am still interested in releasing new relics each year. With relics being restricted to a single person at a time and only lasting a year, that does mean we can get quite wacky in the future — which will be fun.

Good change I would say. Looter gets the effects for a year (if M'aol is summoned again next year) and then it becomes a collectible, and the effect "transfers" to the next person who loots the item next year.

This probably provides an incentive still for people to go for the summioning. The only question is, at what cost to the person who does so. We will know in 2026 if someone else would be going for 9,999 treats, after Heasley summons M'aol next year.

And opening the doors for more of these relics sounds interesting to see what the possibilities are.

Plus, MORE LOOT IN GENERAL!

Feedback indicates players wanted more loot, more evenly spread among the attackers. So next year, it's likely we'll try to provide up to 900 additional pieces of lesser-valued loot, after the system has been fully tested, of course.

tl;dr

  1. group attacking limit increased from 125 -> 250
  2. Queue system will be implemented for future, in addition to above.
  3. Test Pinata NPC to be created for beta-testing. Ched will need >1000 testers
  4. Attack log loading issue fix is in progress
  5. M'aol loot volume to be increased from next year onwards
  6. Relic loot will remain in effect till next summoning.
  7. More relic loot might be coming.

We had a long discussion about this internally and with the committee, taking into account player feedback and desires. As much as we love the idea of having these things as a permanent effect we understand the potential for long term disruption.

We hear the player base, and whilst we still believe there's a possibility it could be fine we stand by the wishes of the people and long term growth of Torn and feel this change will be a good one for the reasons detailed in the announcement.

This also gives us scope to go even more overpowered in the future with relics now that we aren't so bound... Good luck to future looters...

Yes but it's only for me, Ched and CJ since we suffered the most distress over all of this. Thank you for your consideration.

I was one of those less bothered by it being permanent, but I don't hate it being a year locked item.

It's still going to have a serious impact on that player for a long time but will stop it being the be all and end all for a lot of players.

Will definitely be a better model once more relics are released as well.

Nice one chedasaurus rex 👍

Not really happy with the change. I think it was kinda a fun dynamic that there's a OP relic held by someone forever.

Imo would've been better to just give it a curse instead

I dont think the poll would have turned out the way it did if it was an open poll for everyone you have moaners and whiners in the forums...

Not true, I had to suffer to my spouses ranting for days and endure multiple threats to rage quit. It's truly a rollback in his behavior since he read the announcement, the merit is only fitting. :)

Does Ched/Staff feel the NPC’s lived up to the hype?

For future years would you not look at them effecting the player base more? Random hosps, random infrastructure damage (airport etc), chains targeted?

Just seems you have these creatures turning up into torn and just sitting waiting to be attacked, I think a lot of the community feel they could “do more”

Maks [2811251] Reporter

I am glad that Ched and the team are listening to the community. I hope Torn grows even more and we get to enjoy it for years to come.

I think this is probably a decent compromise regarding the relics. It's now on the players as to if the looters get to keep the relics or not.

But I do feel that whoever does the summon should get 'something' for their effort. Like I dunno... An honor bar... a 'summoners cache' that can give them a random relic... Or something not so good.

Also still need to figure out the issue of multiple people hitting the 9,999 treat mark per year.

To be honest, I really enjoyed halloweek, it was a welcome change from the norm and was pleasantly surprised with performance until M’aol.

A lot of time has obviously went into it up front, and probably just as much retrospectively looking at it, which shows the voice of the community is taken seriously by the team.

Looking forward to seeing what is next.

It's a good compromise, 1 year with a relic is still insanely good and if in the right hands can be utilised very well, plus by next year we'll all have a better understanding of the long term effects that the relics bring

Add more chaos please if summoned again, deaths happening randomly (like when a dirty bomb goes off). Also make the weapon/ armour more effective! I'e without the special body armour, you will die very easily against m'aol and the sword is very strong against NPCs/ m'aol.

Ched's announcement was handled rather well. Thanks for listening to the community and for explaining the Halloweek trials you endured and how you envision solving for them next year.

Also, the community are generally idiots, myself included. The relics are the most interesting thing to come into Torn city in a long time, from my view. Your vision for the relics and their permanence was not the issue, jealousy was :)

Friddles [2759779]

I was perfectly fine with the relics being permanent, as initially developed, but I just want to point out (and commend) Ched for *actually* listening to his players for a change. Every time a new feature gets rolled out and screws stuff up, he defensively does the "We can change it if that's what you REALLY want," knowing full well he has no intention of actually changing it. He actually listened to the players this time.

Love the Pinata beta testing idea; appropriate balance to the relics (still Uber powerful, but now balanced with temporary utility); I was also good with the special refills, personally, but increased loot, albeit lower-tier, is fine. Awesome job
