Kata, I was going to keep silent but the sordid truth will come out eventually <sigh>
Ah, how could I forget that wonderful night? We were in Barbuda for Christmas, in a perfect little self-catering beach front villa.
The Caribbean pawed softly at the silver beach, leaving a lost bubble behind, while I carefully unpacked the groceries we’d lifted from our neighbour Tulip’s ‘Champion Penguin’ Pizza House and Kwik-e-Mart.
As I unloaded from the MG Midget rental the usual weekend necessities such as ammo, a pineapple ( for your headdress), some live bio yoghurt, a humorously shaped carrot and even Tulip’s island-famous Salad Dressing, I shivered in anticipation at what the coming night would hold.
We ate late and walked on the beach where the outgoing tide had left a rectangle of firm damp sand. I thought you would flip when I suggested a run, slipping the hammer into my speedos as a precaution.
‘ You having a giraffe? I’d rather kiss a bee’ – but the brandy balloon full of ‘Old Bear-Hugger' worked it’s subtle magic….within moments we were making complicated Origami patterns on the wave rippled silver sand.
When that magical weekend ended, all that was left was a garbage bag full of coffee grounds, the odd wadded tissue – and a message carefully traced in fading red crayon on my forehead :
Must be 000's of them all owning shiny stuff - PI's, race cars, pink pico's, Boxing Gloves , Parachutes...all those things that nobody and I mean NOBODY ever finds in Torn.
