Introduction
This guide is not for the people who can sink (and potentially lose when overdosing) $30m into premium happy jumps every 2 days. This guide is for the people who are still saving for their PI, who make a humble income or are still figuring their income out, or just aren't at the point in their growth where they can just log in and make millions upon millions due to seeds planted years before.
I'm writing this guide to show my fellow nublets that it is possible to train harder than basic without bankrupting yourself. The choice is not just A) be the weakest or B) be the strongest, there is a lot of wiggle room in between.
Background Information
This guide is to show the real range of gym training possible between just clicking the gym button and happy jumping. As you progress in your Torn life you can (and many will say *should*) intensify your training relative to your income and goals.
Happiness is the most important variable in gym training, followed by total stats.
Happy jumping stops being more effective than using your natural energy regen and xanax at a certain stat total depending on which stage you're on.
I am standing on the shoulders of giants here, so here they are:
The Guide
So now that you have some idea of what happy jumping and its variants look like, let's start at the beginning. You're still relatively poor but you've started to make some kind of Torn living. You can start boosting your training already.
Stage 1: Property Upgrade Since happy is the most important variable, you can boost your training before you even take any drugs by simply upgrading your living space, which upgrades your base happy (which upgrades your base training numbers). Get out of that shack and rent (don't buy) the best property you can afford, they usually have some kind of daily upkeep you have to pay so
do your research first.
Daily cost: whatever your upkeep is.Stage 2: Daily Ecstasy Take an ecstasy (also referred to as XTC) every time you have a full energy bar. Ecstasy doubles happiness, which basically doubles your trains. Ecstasy costs about $70k and only has a 3 hour drug cooldown so you can use it about twice a day especially if it's all you're using.
Daily cost: at least 70-140k.Stage 3: Candy + Ecstasy Start taking candy before taking your ecstasy. This can be lollipops or chocolate, whichever you can afford. If you can add another 1 or 2 thousand happy onto your base before doubling it with ecstasy that's even more gains. At my current level candy then ecstasy adds nearly 70% more gains than ecstasy alone, total 270% more gains. Candies are boosters, which have their own cooldown. If you want to use candy more than once a day you will need to ration how many you take per train. Some factions have specials that add time to your max booster cooldown, allowing you to take more candy.
Daily cost: at least 100-200k.Stage 4: 1 Xanax + Candy + XTC Start taking one xanax (also referred to as xan) before the candy and ecstasy. Xanax gives you 250 energy (also referred to as e) and gives your battle stats a 35% debuff for the duration of its 6 hour cooldown. Ideally this is done with a full energy bar, so you would have 400 energy to spend (with donator status, 350 without). So you will need to take the xan, wait 6 hours, take the candy then take the ecstasy. Xanax costs about 840k.
Daily cost: at least 940k-1m.Stage 5: 2 xan or 1 xan + Refill At this point we're automatically gonna do candy and ecstasy because that happy boost is key. Now it's just a matter of how much energy we can afford to add on before doubling the happy. Refills are when you use 25 points to refill your energy bar, which will give you 100 or 150 energy (depending on donator status). Currently refills cost about $1.3m in the Points Market but that's on the low end because points are selling low. So you would train > refill > train before happy resets. This is explained in more detail in the Daily Jumping Guide listed above.
If you choose to add another xan after the first 6 hour cooldown (or you popped a xan before going to bed the day before), this would give you another 250 energy, so you would be at 650e (or 600) before taking candy and ecstasy.
Daily cost: 1.9-2m or 2.2-2.3m.Stage 6: Candy-based Happy Jumping (explained in Candy Jumping Guide)
Stages 2-6 cap at 50k per stat.
That means they stop being better than training your natural e and using xanax as soon as the cooldown is over.
Once you reach at least 50k each, or 200k total stats, either move on to Stage 7 if you can afford to or skip to Stage 9.
Stage 7: Normal Happy Jumping (explained in Happy Jumping Guide). This caps at
400k in each stat (1.6m total battle stats) or
800k in each stat if you work in a 10* Adult Novelties company or have 48h max booster cooldown from your faction. So if you can afford to when you reach those stat totals move on to Stage 8. Otherwise skip to Stage 9.
Stage 8: Premium Happy Jumping This adds Feathery Hotel Coupons (also referred to as FHCs) to a Normal Happy Jump. FHCs provide 500 happiness and refill energy, which adds even more of a boost to stats during a happy jump. FHCs are about 15m each, so they would drive up the cost of happy jumping by at least twice the regular amount.
Daily cost: about 60m+.Stage 9: Entering the Big Leagues This is training using your natural energy regeneration (refills about every 4h45m if you're a donator) and xanax as soon as it's cooldown (6-8h) is over--no more stacking--and refills. At this point any further increases in happy have a negligible impact on your gains because your stats, the second most important variable in gym training, have reached a certain total. If you haven't made it to a good gym by now due to your progress through the previous stages, you will reach one soon because you'll be training as much energy as you can.
Daily cost: 1.6 to 3.8m.Stage 10: Training Connoisseur If you still want to make sure your training is on point upon reaching the best gyms, qualifying for the special gyms is going to be something you need to think about (that's explained in more detail
here). To squeeze as much as you can out of your training at this stage you'll need to use energy cans (also referred to as cans), FHCs, and eventually stat enhancers (cost about 448m) when you reach the 50m per stat cap.
Hidden Costs to Boosted Training
Overdosing (also referred to as OD): You will lose all the money and time you spent on train prep if you overdose. This is a random event that will cause you to go to the hospital with zero everything (energy, nerve, happy, life), a debuff, and a longer drug cooldown. There is a faction special that reduces the chance of overdose. So do not start boosting your training (or advance to the next stage) if you don't have enough cash to not mind just losing that money sometimes. More on overdosing
here.
Addiction: Being addicted enough to drugs to see that brain icon on the sidebar will give you a debuff. If your addiction gets too high, you can get kicked out of your education course and your efficiency in your job at a player company can decrease. Some addiction wears off every new Torn day, and you can pay at least $250k in Switzerland (a 4 hour trip with PI airstrip) to rehab. There are also faction specials that reduce addiction gain.
Access to the Sports Science Lab gym: Once you have reached a total of 150 xanax and ecstasy combined, you cannot access this gym, which is
the best gym in Torn. People who aim to and keep access for this gym train using FHCs, cans, LSD, and refills, which is very expensive (see Stage 8). So someone who wants to access SSL would start off at Stage 1, replace Stage 2 with taking LSD instead of ecstasy, skip to Stage 8 when they can afford to, and skip to Stage 10 when they can afford to.
