I'm still a new-ish player and I'm trying to understand how the Torn economy works. I buy a $5 item at Bits & Bobs and turn around and sell it on the items market for a couple of hundred or more. Then I take that money and buy up a bunch of plushies and sell them on the market for thousands. What?!? Why?? Who are these people buying items on the Items Market at 1000% markup? Some items I can understand, like beer is useful and seems kind of scarce at Bits & Bobs. But plushies, flowers and fruitcake seem to serve no "useful" purpose in terms of game play yet they get snapped up too. I realize that at Level 5 I still can't go "places" that are unlocked for higher levels, so maybe there is rhyme & reason to this when you've travelled to other locations? I'm wondering what people are doing with all these plushies and bunches of flowers, and why they don't just go directly to Bits & Bobs and buy up all the stock there? Or is it that they get points/merits or something for the act of purchasing certain items from the market?

Just watched last night. My head still hurts this morning. Discuss?

I meant scarce in Bits & Bob's shop. As per the context of my question, why would people buy beer at the Item Market for much more than it costs at Bits & Bobs, one possible answer is that it seems infrequently available (ie "scarce") at Bits & Bob's. Hope that clears up your confusion.

I have never seen 5.4 million of any item available at Bits & Bob's. Granted, I've only been looking at items there the past day or two. Are there usually millions of beer available there? Why isn't there now? Can you explain why there is a beer shortage at Bits & Bob's???

Ohhh ok, thanks for the info about the "museum". Hmm, Trader... I'll look into it. Not sure about "intrigued" but I am pretty good at getting some value out of other people's trash irl so... maybe I do find this aspect of Torn kind of fun lol.

Yes, I've had a gander at some of the beginner tutorials, working my way through some of them. I will probably be one of those people that "camp" the store for the time being (but maybe I'll hang onto one of each item now that I know there is a "museum" in my future lol).

Hmm. I've only been here a couple of weeks and am eligible for level 6 (currently holding at 5). I am still trying to understand how the game works, but I just did the initial missions they start you off with and am doing all the stuff you've mentioned (gym, crimes, the dump & sell items). You didn't mention job--do you have one? You also didn't mention real estate--what are you living in? And education--have you enrolled in a course? And have you equipped yourself with armour and weapons? Have you looked in the New Players and the Tutorials & Guides forums? I honestly had no trouble getting to 5, it does seem strange that you've been stuck at 4 for months. Are you sure you're not eligible to level up? It doesn't happen automatically, you have to click the button/link to either go ahead to the next level or to hold where you are.
