Why should you invite a bunch of ghosts to your Halloween party?

Because they bring a lot of boos!

Placing and collecting bounties for beginners · · 5 likes

My playstyle mostly revolves around bounties and crimes when I’m not travelling. I find it fun to both place and collect bounties. This post will share some of the bounty information I’ve learned for newer players and anyone else interested in bounty hunting. (Yes, there are other things to do besides chug Xanax and hit the gym. :P)

Collecting Bounties
Finding bounty targets is pretty straightforward. Start here https://www.torn.com/bounties.php.  I strongly recommend using a filtering script to make things easier — Torntools and TornPDA bounty filters are great. You set a level limit and can hide unavailable targets as well. As I go through pages of bounty listings, I’ll usually only see a few per page. I can buzz through the first 10 pages of listings in less than a minute looking for targets.

Don’t hit the "Claim" option on the bounty list unless you’re 100% certain you can take them — it goes straight to attack. I always click on the target’s name to open their profile. (Tip: you can long-press the name to get basic info without going to the full profile.) This way I can evaluate the target starting with their days played. If it’s something like 5,000+ days, don’t dismiss them out of hand. Look at the last action too — it might also be huge. You’ll run into some of these for weird missions or whatever.

I typically don’t take anything under $100k unless I have some sort of mission for attacks. I try to finish with a specific weapon for weapon-related merits or experience. Unless it’s a really high-value bounty and there’s a chance someone else will snipe it, then I just use my main weapon for a fast kill.  If there’s a timer to start the fight, be prepared to walk away rather than waste the E. Often there’ll be multiple people hitting that target when the timer expires, and you’ll lose it. Unless it’s $250k+ I don’t take the chance.

Traps
These players almost always have a bounty on them, and their stats far exceed their level. Don’t be fooled by what looks like an easy bounty. Many of them post reasons making it seem like they’re easy, such as “Low stat noob.” They must have thousands of successful defends.

There are others, but these I’ve seen so many times I know them on sight. A good warning sign is a level 15 with over 600 days and/or titles like “Supreme” on their profile.

Placing Bounties
You can place bounties on any player, with up to 10 active at once. When I started playing, I took it personally when I got mugged while travelling. I’d react and bounty someone immediately, regardless of level. All this got me was more of the same — either I’d get mugged non-stop by the same person or their faction, or I’d get bountied to hell.

My advice is to ignore getting mugged while travelling. You have a grace period to land and get out of there. If you just sit there after landing while carrying a bunch of cash, that’s on you. I don’t even think about it anymore. If I get mugged, I just consider it the cost of doing business. I never carry more than a few hundred thousand with me when flying unless I’m 100% sure I’ll be ready to fly right back out.

Bounties for Profit
99% of my bounty placements are for profit. There are bounty groups that take payment for placing bounties. This gives the buyer complete immunity from identification. Once the bounties are requested and paid for, they’re posted in Discord for claim by “Sellers” who place the bounties.

The two I use are Bounty Hunters Guild (BHG) and Nebula Corp (NST):

BHG Forum Post: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=10&t=16410771&b=0&a=0
BHG Discord Invite: https://discord.gg/9pwSZX26w3

NST Forum Post: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=10&t=16406219&b=0&a=0
Nebula Invite: https://discord.gg/ApuDS4axKQ

(I should note they offer all kinds of services, not just bounties — check out their Discord to read more.)

These groups pay per bounty placed. You claim the bounty, which prompts you for the number you want to claim. Obviously your cap is 10 since that’s the most you can have active. My recommendation is just 1 per target. Why? A lot of these paid hits have 100 bounties requested. (The money people spend is insane — 100 $100k bounties will cost you $25 million.) There’s a chance you’ll have to wait 7 days for the bounty to expire. Don’t lock up all your slots on one target. I’d also recommend grabbing one as soon as you see it — you don’t want to be the one posting bounty #40 on a target.

Pay: $100k per bounty. For example, I put one bounty on someone for $100k, which costs me $150k. Within 24 hours I’ll get paid $250k. It’s usually pretty fast but can take the full 24 hours. BHG’s payouts look like this in the log: You were sent $250,000 from BHG with the message: BHG #19346. Nebula’s typically have “NST” in the message.

Am I getting rich? No, but in a good week I can make a couple million. It’s really dependent on how many of the bounties I place get completed. From my perspective, it’s low effort income — a few clicks and it’s done. There are bounties I don’t take. Obviously I’d never put one on someone in our faction (unless they made me wait for an OC :) ). While it’s not foolproof, I also only bounty targets with a player ID starting with a 3. I’m not putting a bounty on some rich guy who’s been here for 10 years. It’s also more likely bounties will get cleared on a newer player. The more bounties clear, the more you can place and get paid.

I’ve been asked why by targets a few times, but that’s rare. I imagine you’d have to know what you did to make someone spend $25 million to put bounties on you — that’s a lot of hate.

What else?
I’m sure there are other bounty groups out there, but there’s more than enough action for me with BHG and NST.  Our faction does training focus months.  I use most of my E those months for training, not collecting bounties.

If you made it this far, I hope you found it interesting — if not actually useful.

OC 2.0 Allow refresh or removal of available crime · · 2 likes

Our faction has a current list of all 7/10 and 8/10 crimes.  Probably half the faction is sitting around as most of us can not do any of them.  Some suggestions:

  1. Limit number of each level available.  Why have 8 7/10s in recruiting?
  2. Allow faction leaders to refresh the list or at least cancel open ones.  Instead of waiting days for them to expire.
  3. Probably way too complicated but have the system recognize NNB of members and provide appropriate options
  4. If high level ones expire replace with next level down for recruiting.

Really anything would be better than it is now.

OC 2.0 · · 4 likes

I know this is a dead horse probably but the lack of low level OCs in our faction sucks.  The beta was probably all high level factions and running high level crimes was no big deal.  There has to be a way for leaders to refresh the list or something.   We have a lot of folks now having to sit out.

I only had the one bet and only won once but unusually got three events and log entries. They were spread out over a minute or so each.

Where do else do I get points? ·

You can get points from the museum as well by trading in things like plushie sets.  That does require you finish the entire history section of education.  There are other more valuable sections like Sports science you should do before that.

Why Camel Plushies are being undervalued? ·

Prices will move up a bit as Museum day gets closer.

Is crimes 2.0 worth it? · · 1 like

Crimes 2.0 removes the NNB cap and from what I understand actually grows that faster.   It seems more fun to me (except I thought Burglary was torture).  I would speculate 1.0 will be retired soon enough.  Lots of new merits as well.  Not sure about financial aspects though.

Private island upkeep ·

Thanks for finding that happiness thing. I did 1 million searches on upkeep and just kept finding ads.  I’ve got a ways to go before 50 million but need to pay it.

Private island upkeep ·

So I have not paid my up keep for months on the island I own.  Besides not being able to do more upgrades there doesn’t appear to be any downside.  The happiness reduction under what I owe is always zero.  When renting I know Duke gets involved but not owning from what I’ve seen.  What am I missing?

Upcoming Easter Egg Hunt · · 1 like

While not the most exciting events is pretty easy.  Just hit every page in Torn to find them. They can appear anywhere on any page.  They don't disappear so if you just want to wait for the last day or so you can do that.  I think you still need to at least log in on a day for them to spawn.  I use Heasley's Egg Navigator to help clip through pages.    https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/463484-heasley-s-egg-navigator.

Egg Finder is another helpful one as it puts eggs right in the middle to see if you don't want to search the pages.  https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/463421-egg-finder

Best ways to make over $100m in this game?? ·

Besides flowers and plushies there are now some nice money making black market items worth more.  Shark fins are great in Hawaii among other things.  Xanax are ridiculously cheap right now in Japan but they sell out quick.  Of course you have to get to 15 but with a good guide you can get there pretty quick.

Bookie reporting draw on OT win ·

I bet $20 million on Olympic hockey US v Sweden.  US won in OT but bookie called it a draw.  That isn’t correct as a bet is on the outcome of a match not what happens in regulation.  The regular time is BS.
