hearts to all of you :D
Going back a great many years to when I first started on Torn. SSL was the only viable option for most players, as those that didn't scam found it almost impossible to make any sort of money. The cost of a single xanax compared to the my daily income from playing was laughable, it took me several months to make enough to afford a mansion and in those days only the cream of the crop had anything so luxurious as a PI! Literally a handful of players had the yacht upgrade and rehab was killing people's legitimate income, again, unless they were active scammers..which in those days was policed on a if someone grumbles enough the offending player might get fed..and where you could visit players in fed and see what they were in for ;)
Anyhoo I digress..My play style has always been on and off over the years as RL dictated, usually I play for a few months or a year or two before I either grow bored* and frustrated or responsibilities change, as they're wont to do. The first few times I came back the average player was growing steadily richer, the airport had been expanded and flying was bringing legit income to the game. The last time (well, before this time around) that I came back to the game..about 2013, the streets were dripping with gold. Every noob was chewing as much xanax as they could, whenever their CD was up. PI rental was the norm rather than the exception and drug free was pretty much unheard of. Now it's at the point where people look at the SSL as a niche gym for crazy people that don't really want gains.
Up until this point I still qualify for the SSL, I've almost unlocked Last Round and finally I can get a taste of a 10/10 gym train. Point is although it's taken years, that's how Torn is played. I have the option of SSL, if I like it that's all good, if I don't I can take up xanax as I'm now in a position to afford it, and rehab. It's one part of the game that most players will never be able to unlock, because everyone is looking for the quick fix with stats, and while I appreciate good stats make gameplay a lot more varied, I like the secret areas, away from the maddening crowd. On the one hand I feel the SSL does need a boost to make it competitive, particularly with the cost of entry at half a billion somewhat mitigating the savings from xanax and rehab. On the other hand it does a disservice to all those people that have been training in the SSL for a decade or more. If anything the best balance would pronbably be to buff it a little more through the faction system, the way it has been with it's new branch option. (as I understand it from reading forum posts about the new faction trees. I've not rejoined my old faction so I've not seen any of the new faction trees or upgrades)
I did have a final question, to anybody in a faction with the 10% SSL gains; Does that 10% on a 10/10 gym train give exponentially more than 10% would on a 8/10 gym train? Taking into account all the other faction gym gains and passives being equal, does that 10% extra count for a little more, the way Army Points do?
*sidenote: When I was in my last active period Torn was going through the RESPO and 2.0 changes and I wasn't that overstruck on the whole thing. Now I've had a chance to sample most of the new changes in greater depth, or in their finished incarnation, I find myself appreciating the changes a little more, (with the definite exception of the City map and the finds system) I particularly like the missions, one more little thing to do each day is a big thing when a game has comparatively few options to fill the time and everything moves so slowly. I like the idea of the gun mods as a unique mission credit only buy, I'll have to wait a few weeks to see if I like the reality of the mods/ammo. I also think the addition of a subscriber specific, untradeable bonus was an idea past due. The book system has definitely earned my subscription fees this time, where before I'd just buy DPs as needed - as often from the market with play money as with cold hard cash - I look forward to reading a few books a year and reaping the benefits ;D
Looking for 160 but I may entertain lower offers.
Let me know by mail if interested.
Many thanks!

You changed 3,330 army points for 11,272,476.26 defense.
Starting stat 15.03m Def.
Still worth it if you go idle periodically. I'm just glad I remembered to join the army before going idle this time around. Can't complain about almost doubling a stat for a years worth of nothing. Especially if it's planned idleness for whatever reason.

To go against the flow, I personally love Torn as a slow grind. You'll note that games of a similar nature that are faster paced are either no longer around five years later, or they've had five resets for balance issues. A group of us in my faction used to play other faster paced games while chatting in irc and checking in on torn every half hour or so. Admittedly I've been playing more than ten years, I've had periods of absence and torn is always here to come back to.
When I was a noob there was no money for free like there is now. The elite either hunted, which is extremely boring, or they've sat on their thumbs and trained. There was no flying abroad for plushies and flowers, there was only a single destination from the airport!
Although there are players who have spent all of ten years plus grinding the shit out of their stats or personal net worth, there are thousands who stopped playing but came back and there are thousands more who didn't, and who have low stats for their level due to the difficulty in gaining stats as a newbie way back when. Those are low hanging fruit and with the advanced search feature for donators you can pick them at your leisure by searching days old. There's always something to do if you dont mind grinding, such as trading small items on the market to make enough for a donator pack, but that sounds like the primary issue here; Torn is all about the grind for successful players. Torn has survived this long because it's hook is longevity. It's had fairly major updates the last few years, some I liked, some I didn't, but the game does evolve and there's a lot more to do, and a lot more money than when I started. So I can see your position, but you don't realise how much easier it is now. A player ten years ago wouldn't have been in a PI after two weeks trading lmfao!

I'm looking for a job in a PS company, my working stats are:
- Manual labor 57,501
- Intelligence 79,755
- Endurance 90,979
Over the course of time I've found that warehouse arson gives the best benefits in terms of crime exp + cash. I've lost a ton of nerve and knocked my nerve bar down twice doing pawn shops and 18n hacking, though the 18n hacking pays well and I ran at about 5% fails, the fails have far far higher penalties however than failing most of the other high nerve crimes, same with pawn shop, though my fail rate is probably 25-30% on that one.
Once my NNB is back up to 40 I'll probably go back to 18n again. I enjoy it more than the arson, what can I say!
Intermittently.
I had a mission today, to attack someone with high dexterity and beat them.
Currently my speed stands at a little over a million, my opponents dex (which I spied after the battle) is far superior to mine.
This is the spy log:
- Strength: 400,811
- Speed: N/A
- Dexterity: 32,678,245
- Defense: N/A
- Total: N/A

Without using Melatonin I was unable to get a hit in (the log doesn't show misses) however, as forewarned is forearmed I had packed a Melatonin in my temporary slot, courtesy of unlocking the Torn pharmacy and the ability to equip life and stat boosters through education.
With Melatonin I was able to get two hits in, which was enough to end the fight. The person I was fighting had whored, that is concentrated solely on one stat, and therefore although his overall battle stat total was more than twice my own, he was easily beaten once a booster was thrown into the mix.
There are boosters for each of the battle stats, with a good internet connection and a little luck you could pop a smoke grenade, then run away four times, each time equipping a different stat booster and still have time to finish the fight, as well as having the option of a group attack if that proves insufficient. If the attack is important to you then you can attack multiple times and wear their life down. There is a lot of strategy to consider as well as the raw numbers.
Using my above example against your hypothetical two opponents, you can see that if you were in the stat range 250-300m against an opponent with 350-540m you would have a good chance at beating them depending on stat distribution, equipment, temporaries, weapons and even ammunition. Then there are the passive bonuses from perks, both personal and faction and passive gains or nerfs from drugs.
All in all combat is a complicated orchestra of vying numbers. It's not as simple as player A having more TBS than player B. Stat distribution is another key facet, and probably the most important. It's not simply about the amount of TBS, it's about the ratio in which they allocated. Your best bet is to have a look on the forum using the search term stat ratios. There are also many opportunities for newer players that older players didn't have, as well as the fact that new players now are on average much richer and can make money far more easily than ever before. When I started money was scarce and I couldn't afford xanax to train. Now the majority of new players are able to sustain both xanax use and rehab fees without undue effort.
Indeed, given how much western culture has changed in the last twenty or thirty years. it would benefit the majority of us to question beliefs we were raised with, or taught in school.
Times change, beliefs change, everything is constantly evolving including our civilisation and our knowledge of science. I believe in time science and religion will meet, but currently they're at a dead set impasse with the one championing faith, and the other proof.
Personally I look forward to the day science proves or disproves intelligent design or divine beings once and for all, then we can be united again. Currently religions divide us and cause most of the hatred in the world to come to fruition, well, between religion and greed they've got the war market sewn up.
As a side note; Satanism is rarely if ever what is portrayed by the media. In fact all "Satanic" murders were essentially proven to have nothing to do with Satanism and everything to do with unresolved mental health issues. Actual Satanists are more akin to your standard earth mother nature loving pagans. Nothing to do with ritual slaughter and sacrifice. Those sensationalist murders in the 90's were merely a corruption of the Old Testament Bible, worship of Baal and human sacrifice etc.
Lets also not pretend Abraham wasn't instructed to commit ritual human sacrifice of his son to his God. As that's from Genesis it's canon in all Abrahamic religions, including Islam and Judaism in addition to Christianity. As I said, some beliefs need reevaluating in the light if time passing. When you view sensationalism through the lens of time you'll rarely find much truth in the stories of the media.
I has 4, but missed two yellow ones navigating away from a page too fast. I seem to find most of mine within a couple of pages of logging in, then nothing for hours. I'm wondering if they're time released in x hour chunks as so far no more than 10 for even the most active.
Bump - I like what I see. Do continue :D
Marginally off topic, but I can't find a thread stating it in the forums.
Does anyone know how much E total it takes to go from Atlas to Last Round? I'm a quarter of the way through Atlas, then I'll finally be in the ever more elite SSL club, finally :D

Does anyone have a BB of BAG and has the lowdown on all the specialist ammo? Most importantly which are potentially worth purchasing with mission credits, if any, or if any of the special types justify the billion+ BAG is riding at currently?
Edit: Sorry, neglected to look at the age of the thread. The forum has many search returns for variants of ammo, this one looked appropriate..other than bumping a three week old thread!
Perhaps now scripts that refresh pages automatically are banned we might get lucky and they'll change it back.
10/10 awareness and edu. Found a throwing knife yesterday. Nothing the day before, or the day before that, nothing today.
Not really impressed with the changes so far. I thought the old system was pretty good, rewarding effort for those that were active when they were active. Now it's averaging out that a former days worth of finds will take a week with the same amount of activity and the chance of decent drops, at least from the book users results before and after, seems to have decreased drastically.
Before Torn 2.0 I used to click the City link before I clicked any other link. That got me to the 100 mark fairly rapidly, I've never used scripts to automate my finds and clicking on City before every other link effectively doubles the amount of effort involved in playing the game, so effort and activity were rewarded.
The only saved events of drops I had back then are these two a little over 12 hours apart. Obviously under the old system prior to the graphical city representation, which enabled everyone to get the 100 items merit within weeks which I had to work on for years naturally. Now we're even worse off than that system (which I'd happily return to - i liked random find events!

I pity the foo trying to get 100 finds at this moment in time.
So why is it that my lvl 20 colleagues in my company have all been attacked by stealth attackers and one shotted by people clearly miles more powerful than them?
From what I've heard so far from them they've yet to have a win from being attacked by an opponent of their own level or stats. As soon as anyone makes any sort of move that posts to the homepage they get hit. Level is completely irrelevant as long as the attacker is sufficiently well statted.
I know of at least one level 70+ who is doing this since he doesn't stealth, in addition there have been high stat players reaping through the company I'm in one at a time. Bearing in mind I'm only level forty and the others are barely half that, it seems that your argument doesn't hold.
Sure there are plenty of honorable or fair high level players on Torn who want to challenge themselves, but there are also a ton of predators who just want tags and don't really give a monkeys about how annoying it is for the lower levels they constantly molest.
I've mugged some inactives, with more than 100 days since last login, no tags in any of my trial runs. I checked their profiles for defends in the last month before attacking so as not to potentially waste energy. I was the only attacker, so not a case of being late to the party.
Could of course be bad luck, but could be inactives of more than a certain length don't get one.
Also, with regard to flying under the radar, there are either scripts running, bots in operation or people watching the homepage for events. My torn wife was mugged within a second of her mugging someone else, so close timewise that it was counted in the log as the attacker joining the fight. Either someone has an eagle eye or...
I've been mugged within seconds of logging in, seconds of completing an education, seconds of landing anywhere. Flying under the radar doesn't actually seem to be achievable in my personal experience, including that of my wife and circle of friends.
Also I'm in a faction and a company with attacks seeming to originate from that source; for example everyone in the company getting mugged within a very short time frame.
To fly under the radar you need to be a grain of sand on the beach and an antisocial, unemployed, factionless, friend and enemy-less and most importantly lucky grain of sand at that.
I don't have a clue which email I used 8 years ago to set up this account. I've had countless email accounts in that time, and I don't recall ever reading a Torn newsletter.
I frequently go inactive for extended periods, usually due to time in hospital without internet access and afterwards as, fake money in an online game, is not as important as rest and recovery.
Some of those periods of inactivity have spanned years as my life has gone through many changes, which is normal for grown adults the world over. I can't help but read most of these posts and think about how linear some of your lives must be. Every single day making room for a few minutes of Torn, be it wedding day, funeral or anything else.
Obviously I'm not the committed daily player that plays hardcore as many of the people posting do, I play casually sometimes for years at a time, sometimes for days with weeks of absence in between. I don't try and hide abroad, I don't ever plan inactivity. Over the eight years or so I've played I've spent hundreds, if not over a thousand, which no doubt in terms of the real movers and shakers of Torn is small change.
If my account was wiped out when I thought it was safe though, I'd knock it on the head for good, and while I can't promise hundreds or thousands of pounds more, think about how many inactives there are that have paid money and might again. That's why Ched wants inactives back. They were once hooked on his product, some of them paid cash money. You might even say there's more chance of that happening that four dozen multi's signing up none of whom will ever pay a penny, but will consume ever increasing system loads and overheads. People don't flock to Torn like they did historically, and new signups are not dedicated players as many of the inactives were.
For some of us life just happens day to day and that's just how it is. Even if I wanted Torn to be the primary motivator in my life it couldn't be. That's just how it is for me. I don't expect or accept pity, I make these statements about my life only to try and make you aware not all things or people are equal.
The primary problem in first world countries seems to be looking at everyone else's life through the bias of your own background and environment. Your life is not normal on a worldwide scale. Even in a first world country everyone lives differently according to their own traditions, trials, careers, parenthood, relationships, be some of those paths chosen or others forced upon them. Because you are able to log on for a few minutes everyday doesn't make it unthinkable that everyone that has signed up to Torn in the past is able to.
To think that everyone can just log in for a few minutes everyday is to me a breathtaking display of ignorance given that Torn isn't restricted to any one country or limited to any type of person, with the possible exception of those people behind the Great Firewall of China, or in North Korea.
With regard to the actual poll, I don't really have a horse in this race. As I mentioned I don't try to exploit this loophole. Nor am I a mugger, so I have no reason to back either side. However, the convoluted scenarios you're cooking up to justify your desire borders on the ridiculous.
I know it's a little cheeky, but any chance I could have I have a refund on the honor bar I purchased with three tokens so I could unlock another 4 token honor bar instead?
The missing token that appeared some time later is sitting there all lonely and I can't buy anything with one token ;p
Do feel free to say no, no hard feelings here one way or the other. Free merits and honor bars not to mention free eggs was a gratefully received bonus! ;D
How many tokens is your little haul proposed to be worth Dos-Equis-XX?
11 is the most I've seen anyone get so far, though I may have skipped a page or two of the comments.
Out of curiosity, how much was your loan for?
Good idea. R+
