Do job points carry over when you change jobs in Torn?

TornLife researched this question and found the points below; each one is taken from the sources cited. TornLife could not write them up as a full answer.

Have the rules for job points changed in patches?

  • The developer says the reward is collected after the fire is extinguished. Jobs needing an insurance investigation must wait for it before paying. Rewards start low and improve with skill.[1]
  • Patch list #325 (2024-02-13) changed the crime skill bar animation so it stops fading out, because players thought it was related to crime chaining. This is the only feedback-driven change in this pack.[2]
  • Patch list #294 (20 June 2023) released the Crimes 2.0 migration system and the Search for Cash crime for migrated users. It also made crime bonuses (job, comp, edu, enhancer, merits) give crime exp and skill gains for migrated users.[3][4]
  • Company special positions (Cleaner, Manager, Marketer, Secretary, Trainer) boost the company; the Trainer gives up to 3 extra trains. Specials need company star ranking; new employees are restricted for 72 hours; energy specials cap at 100 job points per day.[5][6]
  • The mechanic changed with the RESPO release. Items were previously found just by visiting the city link. Searching the map is now required. Old 2014-2016 posts describe highlighting the map to reveal items, and a 2016 poster thought this was unintended.[7][8][9]
  • Reaching a level is itself a goal that awards merits. Merit resets cost 500 points first, rising by 250 each time to a cap of 5000 points per reset.[10]
  • Inquiring on a job uses zero nerve and counted as a vandalism crime in the record, with no skill gain. The job persists if inquired on. One player later doubted it still counts. (one player's report)[11][12]
  • Players noticed find rates drop after updates in both 2014 and 2018 (the 2018 poster cited changes to how items spawn in the city). No official explanation appears in the pack. (one player's report)[13][14]
  • Player-run services pay for selling bounty slots and losses. BLACKSTONE (July 2026) pays sellers $150k per bounty posted and $250k per loss. It charges buyers $300k per loss and the bounty price, listing fee and $170k per slot. (one player's report)[15][16]
  • Before release, players complained that the old crime system punished risk with percentage-based nerve losses and lost crime XP. One 2018 poster wanted losses removed or made flat, and a 2017 poster hoped crime XP could no longer be lost. These are expectations, not reactions to the release. (opinion)[17][18]
  • The guide says the bounty award goes into the hunter's wallet once the target is hospitalized, where it can be mugged, so money should be stashed quickly. Most bounties are placed on weekends, and the bounty minimum can be raised as stats grow. (opinion)[19]
  • In 2017 and 2020, players repeated a tip that the first 2 city link clicks per hour have a chance of an item drop. A 2020 asker was unsure whether the tip was true or whether finds were once per day. The pack has no reply confirming either. (unconfirmed)[20][21]
  • TornLife data lists Chedburn as Torn staff, Owner / lead developer. His forum posts carry the Developer role.[22][23]
  • Chedburn is player ID 1, signed up 2004-11-15, level 15, with profile role Admin. TornLife observed him in the faction Medic!! (Medical Board) as of 2026-09-16.[24]
  • Travel to other countries unlocks at level 15 via the Travel agency in the City Center. Each destination sells items not found in Torn, with limited stock that restocks regularly.[25][26]
  • FF depends solely on the battle stats of attacker and defender. JTS (Journal of Torn Science) derived the formulas, which use each player's battle stat score to form the FF ratio. The captured text does not include the formula itself.[27]
  • A hospitalized player abroad must wait out the hospital time or get a revive. Morphine cannot be used abroad, so an attacked player can be stuck there. Logistics Management 5* or above can travel back while hospitalized.[25][26]
  • The Crime Enhancer is the Mountain Bike. Having a Torn City Times in inventory unlocks extra outcomes. Both can be lost on a critical fail. The enhancer gives +5% crime experience and skill gain and must be kept in inventory.[28][29][30]
  • The Torn Wiki (2017 capture) describes Chedburn as the owner and leading administrator of Torn City, named Joe Chedburn and based in Somerset, UK.[31]
  • The 2017 wiki says a player must be level 3 to join a company.[32]
  • Players reported that jobs not needing a full burn can be done with one can of gas and no stoking. Higher burns reportedly pay more. The lighter alone can stoke a stalled fire, which often stalls at 97-99% on full-burn jobs. (one player's report)[12]
  • A 2026 beginner guide describes a selling routine in which the player lists items or opens the Bazaar, then closes the Bazaar after leaving hospital. This shows the bazaar can be opened and closed at will. (one player's report)[33]
  • Higher level makes a player harder to bust from jail but also harder to bust others. Players cite level holding for higher Ranked War respect. One player advised not holding below level 40 with full life merits, since low life makes you one-hittable. (one player's report)[34][35][36]

What happens to job points when a player quits or changes to another city job?

  • A staff member (bogie, 2015) said job points do not transfer to a different job, but they remain stored for the old job if the player returns. Job points never disappear; they wait to be used.[37]
  • Distraction can carry over from a previous fight. An attack received within 30 seconds of another player's aggressive action is treated as a group attack, so the defender may miss a hit.[38]
  • The Distracted effect is applied to the defender but the level is personalised to each attacker. If one player has made an aggressive action within the last 30 seconds, every other attacker sees level one. Two players give level two to everyone else, and so on.[38][39]
  • Most players acquire points by buying them from the Points Market. A $5.00 USD donation gives a Donator Pack worth 60 points.[40]
  • One player says completed jobs with all conditions met are paid 100% of the time. Insurance jobs are the tricky ones. (one player's report)[12]

Are job points spent on specials, and is spending them permanent or tied to the job?

  • In OC 2.0, leadership sets a payout split from 0 to 100% for participants, shared equally. Rewards are cash or items. Item rewards can be paid at market value from faction funds or withdrawn and sold.[41][42][43]
  • Job points are spent on Job Specials, which are not passive.[44]

What happens to job points when moving between a city job and a company job, or between companies?

  • Points are kept per company type. Moving to another company of the same type keeps them (e.g. 10 points in a sweet shop stay when moving to another sweet shop), but not when moving to a different company type.[37][44]
  • The wiki (2025 capture) says job points are transferable between companies of the same type, are stored for each company type, and are not lost until spent.[44]

What are job points and how are they earned in city jobs and company jobs?

  • Company directors and employees receive job points daily at 18:00 TCT equal to the company's star rating (a 2-star gives 2 per day). They are used to exchange for Job Specials.[44]
