What is the fastest way to increase working stats in Torn?
The Torn Wiki calls Director trains at a player-run company the fastest method, if a director will train you: each train gives 50 primary and 25 secondary work stats regardless of efficiency[1]. The self-reliant alternative is Education job specials, at +100 of a chosen stat per 10 job points[2].
Options
Only director trains are ranked by a source; the wiki calls them the fastest method[1]. The other rows are not ranked against each other, and the courses and book are one-off gains, not daily rates.
| Method | What it gives | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Director trains | 50 primary and 25 secondary per train; up to 20 a day per employee | [1] |
| Education job specials | +100 of one chosen stat per 10 job points | [2] |
| Passive gains, company director | 5 of each stat daily at 1 star, up to 50 at 5 stars or more | [1] |
| Passive gains, Oil Rig employee | About 65-74 of the primary stat daily, but requires 75,000 to 225,000 primary | [3] |
| Education courses (one-off) | e.g. BIO 2390: 5/170/120 MAN/INT/END | [4] |
| Working 9 Til 5 book (one-off) | Permanent rise; maximum 2,500 per stat at 50,000 each | [5] |
Director trains
A company gains one train per star rank per day and holds at most 20, so a 20-train day needs a large, stocked company[1]. An employee can receive up to 20 trains a day, which at the full amount is 20 trains of 50 primary and 25 secondary each[1]. The wiki says trains suit players with little or no work stats[1]. Only the two stats the position needs rise, so the third does not[6]. Directors cannot train themselves without giving up control of the company[1].
Education job specials and courses
The Education city job offers three specials: +100 Manual, +100 Intelligence or +100 Endurance, each per 10 job points, so the player picks the stat[2]. Job points are spent on specials, which are not passive[7].
Education courses give a fixed amount on completion. The wiki table ranks by efficiency: the intro course DEF 1700 gives 50/50/50 at length 1 (efficiency 150), then BIO 2390 gives 5/170/120 at length 2 (148). CMT 2600 gives 0/275/55 at length 3 (110). The table gives no unit for length[4].
Books
Working 9 Til 5 comes from a Subscriber Reward, a city find or the Mission shop, and is a one-off rise[5].
Starting out
Army, Grocer and Casino can be joined on day one; Education, Medical and Law need some stats first[6]. A 2026 guide says to stay in a city job for the first few weeks to build a baseline, then move to a player-run company once you have around a few thousand in each stat[8].
A 2019 guide said to join the army, switch to a company at level 3, pick a new 1-star company and ask for a 10-50k daily salary, and stay until 2k in a work stat[9]. A 2017 guide said the Army was not an efficient way to gain stats and recommended player-run companies with paid extra director trains, or the Education job[10]. The 2017 guide is historical.
The wiki captures date from March 2025 and may be out of date as of 2026[1]. TornLife found no current price for director trains and no recent player-tested comparison of trains against Education specials. Rough comparison from the sources: a full 20 trains a day gives 50 primary and 25 secondary each, against +100 of one stat per 10 job points[1][2]; the Education job's daily job-point rate is not stated in the sources.
