Does the Crime Experience merit increase crime experience gained, or only crime success rate?

In Crimes 2.0, the merit (now Crime Progression) increases the crime experience and crime skill you gain, at +1% per level, up to +10% in total[1][2]. Under Crimes 1.0 the wording was ambiguous, and sources disagree on whether it raised CE gain or only success rate.

Crimes 2.0 (current)

The Merits page lists Crime Progression as +1% crime experience and skill gain per level, according to TornLife's findings on the November 2024 capture. The excerpt in this pack shows only a different line of that page[1]. The Crimes 2.0 wiki lists up to +10% from Crime Progression Merit upgrades among the bonuses to CE and CS gains[2]. The sources found do not describe it as a direct success-rate boost.

CE is hidden. It sets natural nerve bar (NNB) and feeds into crime success rates, so any effect on success is indirect, through the CE you accumulate[3][4]. One guide says CE gain depends on the crime, the nerve spent and the progression bonus[3]. TornLife's findings say the same in Crimes 1.0, where CE was described as a hidden stat that affects success rate.

Crimes 1.0 (older)

  • TornLife's research found the merit gave 3% per upgrade, up to 30% at 10/10 upgrades.
  • The in-game text quoted by players in 2017-2019 was "a continuous boost of 3% to the effect of your crime experience resulting in increased success rates". Players asked whether it raised CE gain or success rate.
  • A 2017 wiki capture called it crime success ability. A community official's 2019 guide said it raises the likelihood of success but not the rate CE is earned.
  • A player's home page in 2017 showed "+12% Crime success" at 4 upgrades.
  • Wiki captures from January 2023 and 2024 say it boosts crime experience by +3% per merit.
  • This 1.0 disagreement is unresolved. The source documents for these 1.0 points are not in the cited set, so they carry no citation here.

The sources do not state whether the effect changed at the Crimes 2.0 migration or was only reworded.
