How does participation work in ranked wars?

A faction enlists with at least 10 full members active in the last 24 hours[1]. Any member can add score by hitting the enemy faction, and each hit's score equals the respect it earns[2]. The supplied sources state no minimum number of hits for individual rewards[3].

Who can take part

  • A faction enlists only with at least 10 full members, recruits included, who have been active in the last 24 hours[1].
  • Matchmaking sizes the opponent by member count: minimum round((members / 1.25) - 5), maximum round((members + 5) * 1.25)[4].
  • At least 6 wars must have passed since the two factions last fought[4].
  • A system stops factions continuing in ranked warring if the strength of their membership roster substantially reduces[5][6].
  • A faction that stays out of ranked war for a 10-week grace period starts losing one division every two weeks, down to the bottom of Bronze[7].

Which attacks count

  • Ranked wars are a tug-of-war: each team attacks the other's members to gain score, and the first to cross a target net score wins[8].
  • Score comes from attacking members of the opponent faction and equals the respect earned with each hit[2].
  • Hits on players outside your faction build a chain, which earns more respect as it grows[9].
  • The Warlord weapon bonus is not applied on bonus hits[10].
  • Respect modifiers from the 2017 patch history (captured 2021) include a retaliation bonus of x1.5 and a fair fight bonus of up to x3[11][12].

How a war ends

Under normal circumstances a ranked war ends only when one faction meets the target score or one participating faction is destroyed[13]. Winning in the final division of a rank gains two divisions[14].

Rewards and minimum participation

Participants receive bonus respect, points and Caches containing special weapons and armor[3]. The supplied sources state no minimum number of hits per member for individual rewards, and none defines how participation is measured[3].

Older forum reports mentioned a division loss for lack of participation. The research recorded that the wiki says this was removed in March 2024, but no supplied source document states it, so it is not confirmed here.
