What TornLife's research has established about Ranked war scoring and targets, and the questions players asked about it.
What TornLife has verified
- Patch #346 (09/07/2024) disabled auto enlistment after finishing a ranked war. (confirmed by Torn; Patch list #346 : 09/07/2024 — changes to Ranked War (2024-07-09), )
- The wiki says ranked wars are a tug-of-war: each team attacks the other's members to gain score, aiming to cross a target net score first. Any active chain is forced into cooldown 5 seconds before the war starts. (documented; Ranked War › The War, )
- The wiki says score in a ranked war is gained by attacking opponent faction members and equals the respect earned with each hit. Mugging gives 75% of the score of leaving or hospitalizing, and chain bonus hits generate large amounts of score. (documented; Ranked War › The War › Gaining Score, )
- Enlisting is done by the leader, co-leader or anyone with War Management permission via the Ranked tab. The faction needs at least 10 full members (recruits included) active in the last 24 hours. Members in Federal Jail or Fallen do not count. A faction may enlist or withdraw at any time while meeting the requirement. (documented; Ranked War › Enlisting, )
- Matchmaking uses faction rank (or hidden rank if higher), faction size and recent opponents. Size range is min round((members/1.25)-5) to max round((members+5)*1.25). At least 6 wars must have passed since the two factions last fought. Rank must be within +1/-1 (Gold II can meet Gold I, II or III). (documented; Ranked War › Matchmaking / Ranks, )
- Once matched there is no forfeiting, and members cannot leave, join or be kicked until the war ends (roster locking, added 01/02/22). Extremely high-stat members have capped scores in matchmaking. (documented; Ranked War › Matchmaking / Ranks, )
- Factions cannot take part if their roster strength has substantially fallen since their last war and their rank is higher than expected. This rule started with the matchmaking cycle of 27 September 2022. Enlistment is also restricted for factions with too many members inactive abroad (patch 06/09/22). (confirmed by Torn; Ranked War › Enlisting, )
- During a war, members of either faction get 60 seconds of protection from outside hitters after leaving hospital or jail. Early Discharge is available immediately for incoming outside hits. Recruits can still be hit to build the opponent's score. (documented; Ranked War › Enlisting, )
- A ranked war normally ends only when one faction meets the target score or one participating faction is destroyed. There is typically no forfeit. (documented; Ranked War › The War › Forfeit, )
- A Dirty Bomb is built in a faction and used against another faction to cause respect loss. If the target has low respect it can be devastated; a faction reduced to 0 respect is destroyed instantly and its items, money and points go to the faction leader. You do not need to be in a faction to use one. (documented; Dirty Bomb, )
- All matchmaking happens at 12:00 pm TCT on Tuesdays in a single pool. Factions choose weekday (Thu/Fri) or weekend (Sat) preference; if both match it is used, otherwise random. The day is then random, and start time is the most active period of both factions on that day. Participants get an event with the start time and opponent. (documented; Ranked War › Matchmaking / Ranks, )
- The wiki says the net target score is based on the rank and member counts of the competing factions. If it is not met within 24 hours, it decreases by 1% of the original value per hour, the same amount every hour. (documented; Ranked War › The War › Target Score, )
- The wiki gives the maximum theoretical duration of a ranked war as 123 hours. (documented; Ranked War › The War › Target Score, )
- If a faction loses 20% or more of its membership to federal jail, the opposing faction may submit a bug report and admins can manually make the faction forfeit. (documented; Ranked War › The War › Forfeit, )
- Each enlisted faction has a Hidden Rank based on the average stat score of its top 80% of members, which overrides Actual Rank if higher. Over 200,000 gives Platinum III; brackets step down by 1.3x (153,846-200,000 Platinum II; 41,435-53,865 Gold I; under 3,907 Metal). (documented; Ranked War › Ranks › Hidden Rank, )
- Patch #255 (06/09/22) added enlistment restrictions for factions with too many members inactive while abroad. (confirmed by Torn; Patch list #255 : 06/09/22 — changes to Ranked War (2022-09-06), )
- The wiki says fair fight ranges 1x to 3x; a target with roughly 75% of your total battle stats or higher gives 3x, and it tends to 1x as the target gets weaker. Overseas attacks apply 1.25x. (documented; Chain › Gaining respect › Fair fights / Overseas attacking, )
- Patch list #332 (02/04/2024) released the previously announced Ranked Warring meta shakeup '24 updates and changes to Faction. The entry gives no details of what changed. (confirmed by Torn; Patch list #332 : 02/04/2024 — changes to Faction (2024-04-02), )
