How is there no complaining thread on this yet?

It's not immediately obvious that melee weapons (higher numbers) are more "stealthy" than guns (lower numbers), because shooting someone from a distance might seem more anonymous than stabbing them ... but a quick look at Smoke or Flash Grenade with 10 Stealth Rating shows higher numbers are better. Not exactly sure why they did it that way, there are arguments for both sides.

In general stealth will be less common, a change which favors lower-stat players. No surprise there.

Your thoughts?

Doesn't make sense to me. Why would melee be stealthier than guns? I can hide and shoot you, but I gotta be right up on you to hit you with nunchucks

Limiting stealth is really gonna make stuff messy in here..

Especially for muggers , things are going to be really hard for them..
Mugging a huge lump but at the same time being unstealthed could strt spats between players..
McNeo [864688]

Eh, yes and no. I think anyone with enough money worth mugging will most likely understand that a) it's part of the game and b) they shouldn't have had that much money on them anyway.

I have my stealth option turned on, but I can't think of a single fight that I actually cared if I was stealthed or not, so this will have little impact on me. Then again, I only attack for warring and missions, and do very very few other attacks. So I can see how this would be an issue for people who mug for a living, or like attacking for the fun of it.

Stealthing may occur slightly less often, but if a player is wanting to stealth and willing use weapons and other items etc to try and maximise stealth they will be more likely to stealth than in the previous system, what it means is that from day-to-day attacks without trying to be stealthy there may be a decrease in overall stealth attacks. It allows players with lower dexterity to have a good chance of stealthing if they want to. Obviously if you have higher dexterity and also want to particularly stealthy then you will be even more likely to do so.

I've always secretly hoped Torn would introduce long range military rifles to the game. ie a .300 Win Mag or .338 Lapua with magnum cartridges that cost 7-8x more than standard 7.62 and 5.56 rounds just like in real life.

Guns that are highly accurate from 500-600 yards out, but only shoot a single round per attack and must be reloaded often... but have a high chance of stealth due to distance between you and the target.

Maybe rifle scope attachments will make this possible. []

Dont understand why weapon is so important. Unless its got the players name on it, how would it give away who is using it?

It looks like its based on size of the melee weapon, a chisel is an 8, but larger swords are like 3 or 4. But a pillow is a 7?!?

The basic idea is golden, but the values are all f**ked up. One obvious example of how bad they are: A flare gun has a higher stealth value than kodachi swords (4.6vs4.1). You know, the single shot gun that is loud, bright, illuminates its shooter in the dark and has a limited range. The kodachi swords, though close quarters they are, are a silent weapon and melee, alongside with most of the other well rated stealth weapons.

Unnecessary complication. With all the weapons mods, ammos and stuff, you now gotta concentrate on this too. Might as well make the baby npc suggestion real if you want to turn torn into rl.

So a random check of melee weapon has, what is currently considered the most prized melee weapon, dual sammies at 3.6 making it the *worst* weapon based on stealth. How are dual samurai swords less stealthy than a mace or a leather bull whip chain whip, etc. all of which make some sort of noise on wind up before attack? This seems like another one of those bullsh*t intentional weapon nerfs.... thoughts?

DANG! I am so jealous! Dex FTW Dexterity: 490.8401

Still with my OP dex I still manage 20% lol so much for that. This change will not be kind to me.
Stealth attacks:1,018 (20.5%)

Sling shots are a good life choice if you wish to remain stealthy, and a hammer has more than my duals? Wth?
The Pen Knife is a nice choice as well.

Change is good, I am going to find it interesting in the new challenges. TBH, I never really cared about stealth attacks since my dex is so low, so this may actually be better than before. Temp items looks like they have a 10 rating.
