If the screenshot is fake, then he has maliciously made a member of staff appear to say something which has not actually been said, completely of his own choice and design, ergo impersonation.
Libel itself isn't bannable to my knowledge, but if this is fake Champ deserves a 3 month ban by act of stirring this much shit and this serious a shitstorm for no reason.
This whole thing is a non-starter by the looks of it though, don't anyone get your hopes up for anything more than MimeFaceKiller posting "fArT"
(first 3 paragraphs are the reason for the quote, the rest is more general :) )
Technically champion hasn't done that - the person who took the screenshot has.. And since it's not champions report, and thus champion doesn't have access to it, then it can't (originally) be champions screenshot.
Champion could have screenshottet a screenshot or champion could have gotten a screenshot from someone else. There is ofc also a small chance that he has faked the entire thing (taken the layout from another report, then changed the text completely). Apparently there's also a chance of using inspect element to alter stuff, I don't really know about that though.
But most likely he has gotten a screenshot from someone else, and he could have acted in good faith on the basis of that screenshot.
It's all speculation btw - both in regards to who did what and when, and as to the reasons why Ched, Stretch, Psychotica and Nova hasn't replied to the thread. The accusations flying around is classic facebook-generation - people see something, then write about it and other people read that and proceed to blow everything out of proportion. In the end, people have forgotten the actual facts in the case, which in this particular case are very few, very vague and only based on a screenshot which could be fake.
Have you ever read H.C. Andersen's "It's Quite True!" - if not, take a glance an enjoy the remarkable story as well as the obvious comparison to the progression of this thread.
According to the screenshot, Ched noted that Stretch did in fact read the logs, however he also states that it was done in relation to an actual report (e.g. he was following procedure). Ched does note that there's an issue, but not directly what the issue is. Could be that the case should have been handled by another (because of bias), could be that Stretch had no business looking in the logs - could be any number of things, really. We don't know, but it is pretty clear that Ched has deemed this to be a minor thing, which in relation to his remark that "player privacy is a huge concern for me", makes me believe the wrongdoing by Stretch was on an absolute minimum.
Time to let down the pitchforks and end the witchhunt, I'd say. At least until further proof - from someone actually involved in the case - comes forward.
That's all true, but it would have been easy to inspect element and modify any reports he has going. I did this mockup in 5 mins for a report I currently have going:
The argument that Ched doesn't have to do shit and he has looked it over probably makes sense because yeah, that's a fact. Still does not make what's going on, right, in any way.
But if JFA boys are gonna rush in and pretend like there is no proof this thing happened, then you people are absolutely full of crap. That is a level of delusion only a few people can grasp.
We're not pretending anything, we don't know more than anyone else. We don't know what exactly happened and we don't know why Ched isn't responding. Maybe you're delusional if you think you know all the answers.
I'll paste the part where I (already) adressed your first question:
"... Ched does note that there's an issue, but not directly what the issue is. Could be that the case should have been handled by another (because of bias), could be that Stretch had no business looking in the logs - could be any number of things, really. We don't know, but it is pretty clear that Ched has deemed this to be a minor thing, which in relation to his remark that "player privacy is a huge concern for me", makes me believe the wrongdoing by Stretch was on an absolute minimum."
As to the reason why he were in the chatlogs, I'm not staff so I don't know the procedure. Just off the top of my head, I would imagine that said person had to have some sort of proof on the RMT-report. Could be from chat, could be from PM - heck, could even be from Discord or perhaps the person is a mathematical genius. I don't know, you don't know - but there's reasonable doubt (and we all know what that means).
It's already settled, since Ched has been on the case and made his decision. Clearly he doesn't think that your "proof" or comments have added further to the case (or perhaps he does, and has decided to handle the case outside of the public forum - which makes sense).
This is one of the more balanced posts we've seen from a JFA member, thank you. You acknowledge that it does appear something happened that was not quite right and/or intended, even if Ched has determined it is not a big deal or malicious in the end. However, the entire treatment of this issue gives the impression that, even if the wrongdoing was minor, it is being swept under the rug and there are separate tiers of discipline based on who one knows. That should be addressed.
Maybe a slap on the wrist or less will turn out to be the appropriate remedy, if Stretch merely stumbled across the info legitimately and then could not contain himself because he felt betrayed. We are all human and have human reactions. More important than jabbing Stretch with a pitchfork is that we may need systemic changes to minimize the chances that staff will encounter other peoples' personal communications that may concern them in the course of their staff duties. I can imagine if I was staff and conducting the usual business, only to find out that someone I trusted was saying something that I felt betrayed me - as people have said, it would be difficult to "unsee."
That being said, this has, rightly or wrongly, become a public issue and I think the community deserves to know how it is being handled and the results of the final investigation, if for no other reason than to clear Stretch's name if it does in fact deserve to be cleared. Ched set that precedent of openness with the community by making a big post describing the wracking process of deciding to commute Midknight's sentence, commenting on the 204, etc. I'm not saying Ched needs to explain everything every time, it is his prerogative, and it will always be a judgment call, but this situation has drawn enough attention that an official explanation would not be unwarranted and I'm sure would go a long way to restoring trust within the Torn community.
I know I am one of the more vocal people calling for answers, but it is just that - I feel we deserve answers. Nothing against Stretch. I also can't stand intellectual dishonestly which is why I've responded to a bunch of posts in this thread (Stente, yours is a pleasant surprise and does not fall into this category) and continued to call for openness and investigation. People who support Stretch should want this as well, because it will clear his name and sweep away lingering suspicion if it is determined he has done nothing wrong.
Re: any thought that Champion has doctored the images, I'm sure if that is the case we will all find out about it.
Pretty sure we have been on a steady decline all over torn due to cheds poor decision making skills for months now. Anyone excited for any new releases? Or will they just fall as flat as territories and everything else he's been 'working on' these past YEARS. Dude got rich and doesn't give af anymore obviously.
Why did you quote my post and then say "Now about your questions," but not directly answer any of my questions? I understand you do not need to answer my questions as I am sure you will inform me, but you're the one who said "Now about your questions."
Also, you continue to trash Champion personally. Sprinkling a backhand compliment (he understands his shortcomings, all of which you have conveniently listed) or two into your psychoanalysis and continued attacks on him does not make it balanced. This is your opinion, which you have made very clear, but I hope any investigation relies on the actual facts of what happened and I hope we can discuss facts in this thread without the personal attacks.
So when all is said and done, are we to infer from your vigorous defense of Stretch and denunciation of Champion, that even if Stretch has done wrong, it should be excused because Champion's motivation may be mean, self-serving, or spiteful? This is what I was trying to ask you and which you replied to by saying "Now about your questions."
if see your point - so when using the information he found stretch lied about how he came across the information (screen shots), he did not say whilst going through chat logs i seen this......
That is all speculation - there's no records that I have seen, besides Champion's words and Nova's claims in the screenshottet report, about what took place after the report. If none of Psychotica or Nova screenshottet anything, then sure it looks bad for Stretch. There's no proof of that however.
If you really wanna speculate, then how about this: Clearly Nova is keen on screeshotting, his own report is an example. So who's to say he didn't actually share those screenshots to someone else, who then passed to Stretch? I've seen dumber things happen in Torn when people have been online while drunk. Heck, Phantom couldn't even remember he had sold a Palace he received from HRG the other day in Bugs & Issues.
But then why did Ched remove access to chat logs from most officers, but the most trusted ones, as a response to that report (From screenshots posted earlier in this thread).
If nothing had happened would Ched have seen it as necessary to remove their access to these logs?
