As per bogies message here the pawn shop will no longer buy points.

How much is this going to hurt traders?

Why not stop DP sales as well? Does Ched love our money to much?

Edit - Bogie confirms they didn't want to kill DP buyers source of income. Torn becomes P2W

Reposting from Bugs for visibility sake:

We have removed that option in favour of Points Market sales only. We have been considering this for some time and now that museum day is over Ched has put this into effect, as we didn't want to so unfairly screw people over there.

This decision was not made lightly and has come after careful consideration from our game economist who will be closely monitoring its effects to ensure they align with our goals. Our aim is to focus on points being traded in a P2P market rather than a P2C market. Over the next month, we will also review the balance of point supply and consumption. While the pawn shop has been the largest sink of points, it has also injected trillions of dollars into the economy each year.

To maintain a stable economy, we need to control inflation, and this measure is part of that effort. Additionally, to provide further opportunities for you to earn money, we need to introduce more money sinks and ensure that no other major sources of money are being added to the game.

Changes like this, which shift the focus toward P2P trades for specific areas that introduce a lot of money from nothing, will allow us to concentrate on bringing in additional income sources or enhancing existing ones for players, as requested by popular demand.

We are aware of the potential negative impacts, especially on income streams for newcomers and losses for those who store money in points. On the flip side, daily refills will likely become more affordable. We are considering all these factors and will be closely monitoring the situation to maintain an appropriate balance, dips in points value is expected, short term crashes are possible if people panic sell but we are keen to observe what the new normal value stabilizes at. None of these changes are currently set in stone as we assess their effects on the game, other options are possible such as lower point sale values, however this is our current recommendation from the economist.

Why not DPs too? Adjusting their price is certainly a possibility, and we do monitor and do this from time to time. We don't feel it necessary to completely destroy that source of income for players at this time though. There's no need for us to throw the baby out with the bathwater there.

You may not want to say but do DP's not inject more?

Would it not have been better to stop DP to pawn shop sales and allow points?

I ask that as someone who has bought a fair few DP's and sold to pawn shop for ease. But just curious why points where decided over DP's

bogie [148747] Admin Staff

Points are less disruptive of an option on all counts, and the best option to start with.

Additional comment from Chedburn:

The pawn shop helps keep the DP price propped up, as donator packs are significantly more variable. It's very important in that respect.

It's been determined that this change shouldn't have too much of an effect on the value of points, but let's see.

Baxia [2456400]

Rip to traders with thousands upon thousands of points. Hopefully they sold to point store while it was still open.

Kwack [2190604]

I expect it's related to purchase of DPs. The less steps between people spending their IRL dollars to getting whatever they want, the more likely people are to do it again.

If you buy a hundred DPs and get buymugged selling em you'd be much less likely to repeat the process again.

Worried about Pawn Shop, when hundreds of PSFs are printing 10s of millions of profit each everyday...

Steqman [2562094]

Would have been nice to be given a heads up really. Also Plushie market about to take a dive along with the points value I'm guessing.  Way to increase the gap between newer players and long time players.

Man, feels like this sort of change would have been nicer to give a one-week heads up on in advance so people still trickling out points from museum day had an opportunity to exchange them all if they wanted before a potential crash :(

Pavers [3029445]

Thanks for nothing.  Was this highlighted anywhere before it took effect?  If it was then I missed it.  No more mug-free points conversion then.

ProfitProphet [3188428]

Why not make points tradable in this case? Since now the element of safe disposal is also gone and that is mainly what traders are used for, mug protection. Not you have to put yourself in this danger to get rid of them.

Nexus [105937]

Can you elaborate on this:

"Additionally, to provide further opportunities for you to earn money, we need to introduce more money sinks and ensure that no other major sources of money are being added to the game."

How do you provide further opportunities to earn money by introducing more money sinks, and ensuring no other major sources of money are added to the game?

Seems like its literally the opposite, and reducing the opportunities to earn money?
