Chedburn in this post mentions:

The price has expectedly dipped in the short term, but as we add new uses for points over the next few months, I'm confident they'll recover.

I'm interested to see what you guys would like to see with new points uses.

I do feel like a Booster CD reset or decrease would be nice, but let's see what others would like to see.

There are things that we do have plans to add, and some things we have debated internally. For example we've discussed changes to the token shop as tokens are not as available as they were before, but potentially tied to level just to prevent a brand new player immediately blowing their way through that.

We discussed things such as additional refills, but Ched has felt that this has too much of a "P2W feel" to it, whilst there's some debate here I can see the dilemma. We want to avoid things that are just using points/money to buy significant progress in the game or give a feel of microtransactions as that's simply not what we're about.

I've seen suggestions for resetting books, but I personally don't like that as now that is feeling a bit P2Wish.

It has to feel natural, as part of new features, expanding upon Torn, rather than being forced in and feeling exploitative.

veteranz [1941838]

I get that point, but isn't the current points uses giving a "P2W" feel anyway? Energy refills, nerve refills, additional merits, passive bonuses etc

FAFFO [2465943]

Or even reroll the thing you can buy with merits like is hard to find books there especially the ones y'all mostly looking for or is even me forgetting to check it often

Well that's certainly something that has come up in debates, I've proposed my own suggestions too but ultimately it comes down to what Ched feels is best for Torn and considering he's led it well for the last 20 years he certainly holds a lot of weight in terms of what he knows best for Torn.

It's very easy for players on the sidelines to just say "just do this", as there are no long term consequences for them being wrong, but ANY change we make to Torn has to be very, very carefully debated and conisdered to factor in the long term effects.

Things like the pawn shop change is a fairly minimal thing from what we've considered so far - there are cons which are obvious, and pros which are less obvious to those who are not on the inside with access to the stats or what is to come - and we can fairly easily revert that one back.

Something like extra refills is a bit trickier as the effects aren't as easily predicted, and once we pull the trigger on something like that it's harder to turn back the clock, as the dynamic of the game is forever changed.

What about the addition of new hairstyles, tattoos etc. Maybe more loadout slots or the ability to hide certain layers of clothes.

These are all pretty arbitrary suggestions I know would only be a 1 time thing. But figured it would maybe be something worth considering. Customization in torn feels rather limiting and I know probably won't be popular for a lot of people as most wouldn't care.

We have plans for similar things in other upcoming areas like the charity centre and want to avoid overlap.

FAFFO [2465943]

Like u give a crackhead some clothes and he gives you a fire haircut with needles coming out? Seem a pretty handy idea for heroine users

i dont know why its been shot down so many times, but prestige related stuff is perfect for points.

charge 50/100 points and let players showcase a specific stat on a weapon - its common in dota and has generated them significant real world money.

as an idiot who purchases fully cosmetic micro transactions this is the overall best play. take these for example on dota that i created, and spent significant sums on.

These kinds of statistics are trivial additions, we already track most of them and could add more. Charge players 50/100 points to add / reforge them and add whatever metrics they like. I don't think theres a single person who wouldn't like to see those on their favourite guns / melee weapons.

even novelty players / roleplayers im sure would love their whips to show how many groins they hit or something similarly as daft / funny

Extra refills is a bad idea in my opinion. Allowing someone to be able to essentially have unlimited energy during a ranked war just because they have real life cash to piss away on it is a super crappy way to go.

You could always make points a gambling currency, as in not just to buy more tokens, but to actually stake.

Or perhaps you could add another travel destination, perhaps as an event, which currently has sanctions against Torn, thus wont accept Torn City Dollars for whatever they may be selling there, and points are the only accepted currency. Items they sell could be RNG ranked war weapons, similar to cache opening, or easter eggs as an example.

Isn't it only considered "pay to win" if it's real world currency?

Its not pay to win if you're using in-game currency..?

It's the overall feel of that which we want to avoid too though, we don't want Torn to just be like another mobile game where that is the vibe.

There was a lot of suggestions in suggestion part of forum, some low quality like mine some better. But it is nice to see players sharing their ideas in order to help the game move into right way.

I think just by reading some of those you can come up with something, or get inspired for something better.

And I also don't doubt players will continue to add more suggestions which will be improved with time.

MJ_Cookie [271665]

Most of point added content prob be related to passive stuff that you use weekly or daily to take away points and money out of the game.

Prehaps a passive boost in stats for 24h for 25/50points something like that.

I can see the token shop merits to be added to points shop for x pointd at some point

Adding stuff that only need to buyed once isnt a good model to reduce the point added to the market.

Time will tell what will be added.

Fuckery [2653035]

I'd also like the ability to name weapons as well.

But the ability to showcase this kind of stuff would be great.

Like in TF2 you can get weapons that show how many kills you've got with that specific weapon.

Speaking of other games, I'd absolutely pay points for extra profile configurations.

Stuff like an achievement trophy cabinet.

Show off your favourite honours.

Show off your crime skills.

Show off your best mug.

Etc.
