Is abusing negative money on hand a fair mechanic?

Your two brain cells seem to be fighting for third place on this one.

The issue for me is a continued exploit of this mechanic. If it happens once accidentally oopsies then it’s really whatever.

However after posting this, many muggers have messaged me to comment on players’ behaviour who repeatedly exploit this mechanic. One time is a meh, weird game feature. When it’s continually and deliberately used it becomes an exploit.

I think this should be fixed.

When a player mug, they get % of money on hand. When they mug someone with negative money on hand. They should get negative money.

This is the way

I believe it would be fair to refund the mugger's energy if they mug somebody with negative cash on hand. But if you choose to vastly overpay for shit expecting to make it back that's kinda on the mugger 😅

It's not abuse, it's a game mechanic. You only "lost" 25 energy. The money went to buy items. That was your choice.

I'm feeling enlightened today how many people apparently cannot understand how game mechanics work even after people kindly explain to them xD.

I'm surprised there's this much discussion over someone clearly abusing a game exploit.

What's the exploit? Staff said no laws no rules were broken.

That doesn't make sense but I guess that settles it. In case you're serious, the exploit is setting his bait price just below his negative balance (clearly intentional).

I'm a hundred percent serious.

The exploit is knowing that there are people who mug and setting the price to where the mugger thinks he's going to gain a large discount on the items he is buying? No, that's called being smarter than the mugger.

Having negative money is caused by multiple things.

1. You placed a bet that you shouldn't have so know the system has to negative your account the amount of money you received.
2. Receiving exploited money or items
3. You did something that was against the rules of Torn that somehow created profit for you.

If you the player didn't get her account deleted ( fed) there's only a couple ways of digging your account out of the negative.

1. Sell items
2. Have someone send you money.
3. Get on your hands and knees and ask nicely if ched can clear your negative wallet. 

3 does happen sometimes.

If you sell some very valuable items above market price openly on the market or bazaar, you're using the game mechanics how they should be used.   

Side note: Fairness is laughable when you're the one mugging someone. 

Having an unfair advantage that your opponent is unaware exists doesn't make you smarter than them.

It's not a unfair advantage to have nothing in your wallet.

This is a legitimate mechanic in the game that can only be gained by breaking the rules. To staff, it's a punishment.

Yea, this is where I keep getting hung up in this conversation.  OP and the folks supporting his argument seem to be implying that the person in question applied his own negative balance, somehow.  And nobody has really given me enough to buy that thus far.

Did he take advantage of his negative balance to bait a mugher to clear his debt faster?  Yep!  Sure looks like it.  But that doesn't rise to the level of rule breaking, and staff have already commented that creating new systems to protect the integrity of buy mugging in this, very niche circumstance, isn't very reasonable.  (I at least trust that given the depth of this conversation today, they'll keep an eye on it going forward though)

They gotta pay off their dept somehow, and its their choice how. You just got caught in the middle of it and came crying to forums...

I read bogies reply and it seems to boil down to being too much effort to fix because it doesn't happen that often. He even raised the same concern to Ched. That's fair but pretending it's intended or not an exploit is pointless. 

Apart from breaking the rules, people can also get it when the bookies f**k up and the devs have to rescind already paid out bets.
