Apparantly I broke some rule I was unaware of in the other thread, which ended in a grave. So here is another suggestion for you guys :) I've included some of the feedback on the earlier version.
Back in the day, we used to have random events. An NPC would run around and wreak havoc, airfields were closed due to some ATF dude cracking down on cigarette smuggle, rehab burned down....
I'd like to see more of these. Some might even be coded. Think about:
a hurricane in the Carribean - Airport Caymans is shut down for 4 hours, nobody can leave or enter the island a terrorist attack in Dubai - Everybody in the country is hospitalized fireworkfactory explosion in China - Everybody in the country is hospitalized Colonels' Coup in Argentina - Everybody is interrogated at the airport, travel time increased by an hour Hackers attack Swiss banks: nobody can access their money while in Switzerland for 24 hours Poachers occupy Kruger Park: Anyone trying to hunt gets hospitalized Party in Scotland: Everyone is hospitalized with liver failure due to binge drinking Tsunami on Hawaii: Everyone on the Island is picked up by the wave and washes up in Japan
Of course, you can also have positive effects: Switzerland - Bankers strike, saves open, everyone in Switzerland can do one rehab free of charge Torn - Police Strike, nobody gets jailed (crimes can still fail, of course...you may still end up in hospital or so, just not jail Torn - Hospital Strike, everyone who goes to the hospital is in there for 25% longer, BUT a crime pops up in the crime screen "steal meds", which is a zero risk, 5 nerve crime where you can steal a random medical item
Other events could put out of order the features (rehab, truth sayer, whatever).
Events could also influence the payout of certain stock perks.
But you can also have events in the city. Using the NW of those perm-fedded/quitters you can have an NPC play around with the market, for instance buying the market dry of points, or flooding it. You can do the same with any item or the stock market.
More of these events will bring more life to the game again.
Perhaps Ched can add a job agency in the city....job seekers post to enter the database with their current jobstats (pay a fee based on level and duration), employers post what they look for, and get a list of candidates with an indication of how well they will perform (statwise). Also at a fee, of course.
This suggestion was originally made (implicitly?) by Erebus[1666253], but he did not actually post it as a suggestion. For several reasons,I am somewhat reluctant to post this thread, but what's right is right....
So, without claiming credit for this idea, I'd like to put his/her/their idea forward for the admin team to consider.
In short, the idea is that in some situations admins should manually assign (or change) a custom rank. In this particular case, we are talking about Roadhousee [2397917] who faced the biggest challenge of a lifetime and decided to take control of his destiny.
A brave step, something which many have shared their thoughts about in the original thread. I think it needs very little explanation that the rank of "Supreme Coward" is wildly inappropriate for someone who faced the biggest challenge and took brave option.
Therefore, I kindly request (again, following someone else's lead) that admins do the right thing, and change the rank of this player, and perhaps organize something to change the rank of those with status "Resting in Peace" into something which could not be seen as a slap in the face of the deceased and/or those they left behind.
Edit: As suggested by Penetration[2340613]: change the rank to "Resting" and "In Peace"
The original thread is about "should it be banned".
That is a completely different topic than "How do people make money from doing it". I am a business economist who is intrigued by the entrepreneurship behind it, without voicing an opinion on the mortality of it.
That seems unnecessarily complicated.... Just pay me $ 1000, we marry, and a week later you notice I forgot to lock my vault. You clear the room, take all my cash and I go to the Forum to call you a scammer and everyone points at me and laughs about the idiot I am.
What? How? A person losing sees his loss, how can you fake that? And even if you do, so what? You have a billion TC$. You can't pay the bills with that. You'd have to sell them, which was illegal anyway.
Ok... So the RMT rules are tightened, and you can now no longer use Torn currency to play slots on other sites.
First: I didn't know you could
Second: protecting people from gambling is a good thing
But... Implied in this change is a business model where a real casino accepts T$ as currency. The thing with a business model is that you have costs and income, and income exceeds cost.
Say I have a slotmachine. It works on US$ and TC$. People through in dollars, and it pays out dollars, usually keeping a percentage. That is your earnings.
How does that work with TC$? It takes TC$ and pays TC$, so the owner makes TC$. Which is worthless, unless you break the old RMT rules.
Or they pay USD, which means spending money to get something which doesn't seem worth the effort.
So unless we are speaking a hobbyist who is just having fun and getting some TC$ in return, what's the point? If I were smart enough to build a Ben-Hur style race, is it that bad if people spend some money? How is that different from selling a forum banner?
Stop... I am getting distracted.... The main question: how the hell does any serious casino make money from Torn players spending Toen currency?
Terrible answer. It answers the question why this person is apparently considered to be a year. But you asked something else: why said individual behaves in a way that causes such alleged perception.
There are no people who have been in Torncity.com for that long. Just imagine what it would be like. You'd just not have a life, at all! How sad would it be to be in a game like this for more than 2 decades?
