A 3rd (neutral) option to Friends and Enemies list · · 175 likes

Many of us use our Enemies List as a way to track mugging targets. We don't necessarily 'hate' these people, we just like to see a quick reference of them coming online or them being active. We all do it.
However, with the changes to bazaars/enemies list, this causes a new dilemma. Keep a favoUrite target on your enemies list, but they can't buy off you. (Yes, you don't have to have that option set, it's your choice, but we are assuming you do here for the sake of argument...)

So, what I propose is a 3rd list - the "Watching" list. (Target? People of Interest?, suggest what you'd like it to be called)

This list does what it infers. It allows you to add people you are interested in keeping tabs on without adding them to either Friends or Enemies.

Arguments:
1) Q: Why not just add them to your friends list? You can easily upgrade them now and it solves the issue.
A: True, but now it's even harder to easily filter out who's a true friend and who's a target. Really I hated this about adding targets to enemies list too. But with this proposed neutral list, it takes away any ambiguity.

2) Q: Why should you just have this? Others have to upgrade lists with points now.
A: Agreed. Nothing in torn should be free or given. I propose that you, by default, do not have this list. It can be purchased with 100 points for an initial list of 10.
Each additional 10 costs 25-50 points. (Possibly only have this option for donators too?) You want this list to target people, then pay for it.

3) Q: I don't mug people, why the hell do I care or want this?
A: This list is just a neutral way to keep tabs. Want to know when the Hamster comes online? Add him to the "watching list". Want to keep tabs on particular competitors in the auction house or races but adding to the enemies doesn't quite fit with all the people you hate which exist there? Add them to the "watching list."

I feel that it's a helpful and almost needed addition to the system. It's neutral and helps keep them filtered from people you actually like or hate (strongly dislike? haha). I know many would like to see something like this. It's just another tool at our behest to help with daily torn life.

If you like this idea, please vote it up. Comments welcome as always.

Hate or Love PP, read this. · · 189 likes

Please don't turn this into a thread about PP or the competition. What we have seen today is far bigger than that.

What happens next time Ched feels like pulling out the god card on a game you play everyday. Invest your time and money on. A game you play fairly by his rules that are set in stone. What happens when he decides you are the one affected next by something you have no say in?

Today we witnessed the owner of a game changing the rules/play right under out noses. Whether you agree with PPs tactics or not, you have to see that his solution was not only immature but it was outside of his own rules and guidelines. There is 0 chance to overcome what he put into play. That by anyone's definition is a smack to all of our faces.

You may agree with what he did today (only a small percentage seem to. Even those not in PP realize this is madness to take this road) but what about when he pulls such a move on you?

I served on Ched's staff for more than a decade. It became clear to me over time that his idea of fair and holding himself to the same standards he treats us with is not going to happen. This was scripting abuse; this was changing a game in the middle of that game. My 4 year old can tell you that's not right.

You looked very bad today Ched. I say that with no ill-will or anger. I say that with a genuine sadness that you let the game down today. You appeared to be a dictator today. I lost so much respect for you today. All of you should have. What's in store for you all tomorrow? Even the ones that are ok with this.

Again, please focus on those points. Not the PP 'scandal'. How do you feel that scripting and game changing can happen to you tomorrow? Feel good about that?

Quickly identify who initiated attack · · 135 likes

My suggestion is primarily aimed at making war easier and more optimized.
In Attacking 2.0 it's great that we can have group attacks. However, it's very hard to quickly identify who initiated an attack you stumbled onto. You pretty much have to scroll to the bottom of the attack log and see a bunch of text all massed together. That sounds simple enough, but when you are in war, trying to fend off would-be-attackers from your faction, or, prevent yourself from stealing an attack away from a faction mate (and wasting E) the last thing you want to do is have to hunt all that down. The 10-12 seconds you spend doing all that can be critical in making a decision.

My suggestion is simple to implement, will do away with all ambiguity and I can't imagine too many will have a problem with it.

I've included images below that give an example of both what it looks like to encounter a current fight with an enemy (seen in red) attacking your faction mate (seen in green) and your faction mate (green) attacking an enemy (red).

EDIT (23.2.15) - Neutral attackers/attackees should be (IMO) in dark grey. Since this is really a suggestion in regard to war, I feel that the coloUrs green and red should relate to faction mates and war base enemies respectively. So anyone that happens to stumble in, that falls under neither category, should be dark grey to infer neutral.

This is all seen before the attack occurs. On the screen that currently gives you the option to join the attack or not.
Mind you, this is not giving up information that you don't already have access to; it simply makes that information quicker and easier to read/understand. "Do I join this fight and save my mate?" . "Do I walk away and let my mate take the fight that he started?"

Both are easily and readily there to see and make a decision on in less than a second's time with my suggestion.

Change to Trade System (cancel trade mugging) · · 126 likes

There is a bit of a situation that I feel is a flaw (benefit to some) in the trade system.

Part I:
Player A lies to Player B and tells him he'll sell him a stat enhancer or some other high priced/valued item.
Player B adds the money.
Player A cancels the trade, the money goes back to Player B and Player B gets mugged immediately.

To me this just should not be. We have ways to prevent people from being unfairly (and yes this is not fair) mugged, yet nothing for this method to be prevented.

I propose that any money returned from a cancelled trade also be added to the bank for removal within 10 minutes. The same way that lotto winnings, stock sales, etc are handled - but a much shorter time to prevent abuse from fake trades.

Part II:
One fallacy with this is that people could abuse this method. Many people set up trades to hold/hide money. Player A sets a trade up with Player B just to hide money. For this reason, the money should only be held in the bank for ONLY 10 minutes (thanks to wolvie for this point - it solves all abuse issues!)
I feel this is a very important and needed addition to the trade system. Far too many players are taken advantage of in this way. It's simply not fair.

Chat boxes frozen completely · · 1 like

Got it fixed. I manually cleared out any cookie having to do with Torn and it seems to have fixed it. Thanks for taking a look and consider it closed/fixed. Thanks.

Chat boxes frozen completely ·

@ Philistine: Correct it happens incognito as well (I always surf incognito with all my surfing)

@ Alec: Good suggestion and part of the problem was solved. I logged out of my PC, logged on my phone and was able to close the chat windows (2 people and minimize competition chat).

Logged out of my phone, logged back on torn after closing the incognito completely (to be sure I reset anything on the browser side). Sadly the the chat still won't reach the server. My windows are gone that I closed in the phone browser but no ability to chat still. Just a spinning symbol inside the "people" tab of chat with a spinning symbol. No idea why it won't connect to the server. I've cleared all that manually as well as closed the incognito window and re-established a new one.

:(

All of my chat boxes are locked up. I can't close them, open a new one, reply to the ones open or do anything. Even when I try to minimize the main one that is expanded, it won't stay minimized when I navigate to another page. Occasionally it will say "Connecting to the server...". It's been like this for a few hours now.

I've tried F5, tried logging out and back in. I didn't add a screen shot b/c there's nothing to really show. They look normal to the eye but they won't do anything.

PC, Chrome. Same browser I always use - just suddenly it's not working at all.
