I found myself on the train platform holding a one way ticket to Torn City. Why?
Well, I took this decision after my life and work started making me feel less human and more like a tiny cog in the huge machinery of life. Apparently like others who were satisfied with this, I never was. Something about it was amiss in all this. I wanted more than a work, I wanted a free individual life, which included being social and having fun too.
So there I was, at the station holding a ticket to what I thought was freedom.
After an eventful travel with a train full of people, I had reached Torn City.
By the expression on the face of people I traveled with, I could make out they had the same plans as me. I could not help but gape at this enormous city bustling with life.
I was in Torn for just a few moments and I was already feeling lost and small. My great expectations seemed distant at the moment.
It was pushed a little further into the realm of distant when I was waiting in the train station reading the newspaper. In the newspaper I saw photos and read about the exploits of the famous legends on Torn.
I felt like a small insignificant bug in front of these legends.
I decided to start my life in Torn. I moved the little things I always carried around with me to my Shack.
It was a small, just as small as I felt that day. Day slowly crept away and gave into night as I tried to plan out how I would survive in this huge city.
It was the next day that I made some headway into understanding the city. I met an old man called George, he was rather friendly compared to the rest of the people, and he helped me around and showed me the vast expanses of the city.
We talked about every place and he told me about every details.
He told me that I would need a weapon to defend myself. And he showed me to a gun shop by the name of Big Als Gun Shop. With the little money I had, I bought a Scimitar knife to defend myself.
A shocking revelation came to me that afternoon. As I walked down the streets, in the heart of Torn, I witnessed many crimes.
I glanced at the knife in my pocket and the hard realization struck me.
Crime was an essential part of survival in this city. I had to defend myself from the criminals and sociopaths.
And to live here, I have to descend to their level of mercilessly hurting and attacking.
The paradigm I had about attacking and crime had to be shifted to live here.
George assigned me with easy targets at first. And I had carried out my first attack; it didnt feel good at first. He also showed me the way to the gym and told me I had to work hard to improve my defense and attacks. He told me not the slack off and to train relentlessly.
In the following two days I trained and visited the dump regularly to find something valuable.
Following Georges advice, I started looking for a job. I found a decent job at the army to earn a little more for survival.
And I applied for some education courses too. Meanwhile George too has disappeared, leaving me alone in this huge city.
Again I found myself back to the same situation I was in when I came. As I was walking back through my house that day, I got attacked at by a person.
I could not see him properly before I was knocked out. Next thing I remembered, I woke up in the hospital. I checked my pockets to find it empty of the $2000 I had been saving.
Something inside me changed that day after I was attacked. I had vengeance in my mind. I started working out immediately the next day in the gym and climbing up the ranks.
I borrowed money from the Loan Sharks and bought a couple of xanaxs and LSDs to improve my training and performance. I used to drink beer to get nerve to carry out crimes at the New Player's bar every night.
When I was strong enough, I started to attack and mug other people and repay the Loan Sharks with the money I made.
I had become one of them.
The money I made my crime outweighed the money I made legally. My entire life from then changed it was an endless circle of attacks, mugging, training and planning out crimes.
The city had captured me and swallowed me in. Slowly I had become a part of the system I despised.
Attacking was no longer an alien to me. And drugs had become a routine part of my life.
The way of living in Torn had gotten into me. I had awed at the life of the legends in Torn. And now I was on the way trying to become one of them.
Presently, I just successfully defended off an attack on me made by some person. He probably underestimated my strength.
Life is good now. Slowly climbing up the ranks, I was halfway up to the top. Looking back down upon how I had risen to how I am makes me feel proud of myself .
The $2000 mugged from me which changed me back then is now as insignificant as as 50 cents. But that was the starting of the change which lead me here.
Now I look at the newspaper everyday and read stories about the exploits of the legends of Torn, before it used to make me feel small and useless, now I smile to myself knowing I'll get there one day.
