So, I can't help but notice when a large powerful faction wars with a small faction, how discouraging it can be for players that are continually in the hospital. I know it's a long term crime game and all that, with highs and lows, but the freedom of not being in a faction allows you to essentially do whatever you want (whenever you want), like being in the casino for example. Doing days and weeks at a time warring gets pretty tiring if you're just trying to win the jackpot on the slots (lol).
I appreciate the system for what it is, but wonder if tweaking the system somehow to prevent super-powerful factions from using weaker factions as chain-filler would help encourage factions to war with factions their own size and strength.
To think out loud, if a decimal was added to the chain system, an attack by a larger player on a smaller player could maybe offer 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, or 1 point to the chain, relative to the strength/level difference.
Gangster is gangster, but if I saw a really tough gangster kick a baby in the face in real life, I'd be like "Man, that was pretty gangster, but I only award you 0.2/1 points for kicking a defenseless baby in the face. Try an old person next time". The gangster will either start kicking way more babies in the face, or stick to other gangsters who offer a bit of a challenge. I'm guessing the latter.
I only post this message because I'm turning into a huge Torn fan (I'm a bit of a n00b still)... I genuinely hate to see other people discouraged playing it when they're constantly hospitalized during a faction war (either by leaving the faction or completely abandoning the game). I feel that a better balance would help factions (and Torn as a whole) gain and retain more players, IMHO.
Once upon a time, I thought it would be a good idea to allow spouses to buy/upgrade a separate vault. No added bonus to happiness (unless you feel otherwise), just a separate vault to call their own.
I think it would be cool if a different set of OC's could be added during faction wars, perhaps based on the difference of faction size, strength, total members, level of total members, rank, etc (or a combination of any). I think it would add an interesting component to the game and perhaps level the playing field for smaller/peaceful factions who can't get ahead when the larger factions decide to keep them hospitalized for days on end.
I can't think of many ideas off hand (just putting thoughts out there), but lets say a big faction declares on a faction that has zero chance of defending itself. Because desperate times call for desperate measures, maybe there could be an OC like "misery loves company" where 2 of your faction members take 6 hours to plan a suicide bombing against the attacking faction. A success would hospitalize the two bombers for like 12 hours, but also hospitalize a small percentage of the attacking faction for 12 hours (like 3-5%).
The larger faction could receive OC's related to how strong they are and also result in respect bonuses that maybe allow them to "finish off" the smaller faction without forcing them to constantly hospitalize them. To think out loud, maybe there could be a "taunt" crime that awards 50-100 respect when planned by 10 or more members, and stops happiness gain for the defending faction a couple hours (or something like that). No hospital involved and it pushes the war meter.
I have a love/hate relationship with the current faction system... I'm mostly just looking for a meaningful discussion on how to make Torn a better game for everyone. I readily admit that spending my whole weekend in the hospital has me highly discouraged from even wanting to log in (let alone subscribe). If I'm going to constantly die and be in the hospital, I wouldn't mind taking a few people with me (they call me kamikaze for a reason, lol).
I think it would be convenient if being able to see your current inventory level when looking at the "view item" option while buying goods would be a great adder (similar to how it shows the number of items in circulation).
I'm a new player and have had to deal with this on a couple occasions. I was raging about this once too and think that at the very least, mugging gains should be minimized if the player is like 80% or more smaller than you. Getting mugged by a level 50 player sucks and was pretty discouraging for me as a new player (to be honest). I also think they should make Vaults available in more properties to put them within access to new players... Shifting your money from one game to the next with the bookie isn't difficult, but it's a bit of a pain in the butt.
The first time, I found a Casino Pass in the city and traded it for $325 million to a guy with an awesome username (won't bother mentioning who he is). Anyway, he mugged me for $30 million and very politely apologized for it. I saw it as a $295 million dollar win and moved on. I had already been mugged a few times after selling things on the market and expected nothing less. It still kinda sucked.
Then a really nice guy gave me a Donation Pack after buying a few million in points off me and mugging me. Not too sure why, but he sent me back the money AND medical items. I guess he was having internal struggles that day. I sold it for $24 million and again, got mugged right away.
I feel that even though getting mugged IS part of the game, and I'm very used to it now (although I respond with 3 bounties, then 5, then 10, 15, etc.), it is pretty discouraging to have a much larger player tap you for your hard earned cash (literally hours of buying and reselling stuff for small margins on the market).
When I mug people, I look in the hall of fame for people with high working stats, but a low level and high age. Guaranteed they're mostly deserters with jobs and decent money on hand. The way I search the Hall Of Fame, I usually mug abandoned accounts anywhere in the 100-300K range (not much, but decent). I even had one guy who I hit for 860K (named "Toga", give him a shot).
Anyway, I feel there are enough cash-rich abandoned accounts in this game that there isn't much need to pick on new players, but you know, it is what it is. Welcome to Torn (lol).
No money to keep the young man alive apparently, but plenty of money to line the hospital with cops and supervise the internet for people making "offensive" statements.
It's an unfortunate circumstance all around. It's really too bad the parents can't take him to a hospital where people haven't given up on life. I have a son the same age as Alfie, and I can't imagine the grief that Dad must be going through.
I play from work a lot, so using my work computer is a lot more inconspicuous than using my phone at work.
Also, you can play the game WAY faster on a PC... Open up multiple tabs to have different areas open, set up multiple attacks, etc...
I use my phone to do basic stuff, but would much rather use my PC or laptop to play. My laptop has a touch-screen, which comes in handy when buying stuff in the item market.
EDIT: Now that someone pointed out that big "A" off to the top-right of the comment bar, this topic is 110% useless. Thanks for coming out everyone!
I'm rediscovering HTML, so thought I would share how to use it in your forum posts. If anyone would like to add to it by showing us how to do more advanced things (like making tables), I think it would be a useful topic for some people.
HTML uses "tags" to tell your text what to do. Common tags include the following (remember to remove the spaces):
for bold text for underlined text for italicized text
You can also alter the font size and font color with the following:
Using a "3" increases your font by three sizes Using "red" makes red text.
When you make a tag, you must end it... To end a tag, use the same command, just add a "/" into it.
For example, when when making for bold text, you must end it with a /b >.
You can also do multiple things at once, like for bold, italicized, underlined text, all together., as long as you add and end your tags right.
Once upon a time, I thought it would be a good idea to allow spouses to buy/upgrade a separate vault. No added bonus to happiness (unless you feel otherwise), just a separate vault to call their own.
I think it's unfortunate that a bunch of long-time players felt the need to suck all the fun out of this competition.
If I was aware of a loophole like this, my personal integrity would prevent me from taking advantage of it... Winning (or losing), HONESTLY, is far more rewarding than taking advantage of the system.

Can't you just report their post to moderators with that little button and have staff ban them from posting on the forums?
Also, if you don't feed the troll, they will eventually go away (just IMHO). Ignore the childish behavior instead of giving it your attention and it will eventually stop.
