I don't have a cool job like some of you but I want to be a programmer. I'm thinking about getting a CS degree. I'm starting to think a majority of Torn players are programmers. If anyone has a CS degree or a bachelor degree please tell me your experience. But I would love to hear what everyone does for a living. Might as well tell you my occupation. Im a manager at a big chain grocery store. It pays the bills but its not who I am. I feel like my mission in life is to change the world. (In a good way) In no way am I lowering people who have jobs like that. I just think I'm built to take on bigger projects and responsibilities.
Take a look at the second line. Now explain this to me, please. How in the holy hell, does one simply shove a big box of f*cking chocolates in their pockets? Is my pocket suppose to be a wormhole that just sucks whatever comes in its path? How the hell am I suppose to use my imagination reading this? I mean the icon is cleary, a big box of chocolate. Why can't they put something like. You threw the big box of chocolate on your shoulders and ran out the back door.
But nooo, why put that? I love how it says that you "shove " it in your pockets. Like its a f*cking candy bar and not a big ass box of chocolate. If I had cancer or AIDS my last dying wish is to meet the person who wrote this. But thats just the beginning of this. Now read the third line.

I thought this was the perfect game until now. Is this laziness? Lack of irl situations? Or simply just a variable getting put in the wrong line of code? I guess only real men have big pockets. First...
This guide is mostly for newer players. But you can show anyone if they are having this problem. Every citizen in Torn is important. We need people. Our economy only gets better with you. I have seen a lot of reviews about people quitting because of the seniority players. They own the game. They call the shots. (Not true). If you stay hidden and not post in public places you won't be seen and you can do your own thing. Stay close to the ones who help you and avoid suspicious people and backstabbers.
Staying hidden
Unless you know what you're doing...or saying rather:
Don't post in public chats. Global or New players
Don't post on the forums
Don't place bounties
Don't trust players you don't know well.
Don't retaliate or plea
Forums are good. Go there!
The Forums are very important in this game. You can learn a whole lot from here. Just like on this thread. You can also participate in giveaways that some players do and win free stuff. Even cash! Just be careful where you post. Or even better, don't post at all. You're always being watched and stalked by people. Remember that.
When posting in public chats and trade chat
Never post anything about your money or if your selling big money items. Like I said in the last paragraph. You're always being watched by muggers. First, scroll threw and find someone that's buying before you post. Look in the trading forums which might be better. If your a low-level player with low stats stay away from the global chat! You will get mugged! I promise. Never try to argue and fight with some random player. You never know what they might pull up there sleave. Youll make yourself a target by posting non-sense and gain a lot of enemies which won't look good on your profile. If you need people to talk to join a faction. Well get to that
I'm being targeted and they won't stop bothering me.
What should you do in a situation like this? Well, ill give you some advice since it happened to me and some of my friends. Well first and for most STAY HIDDEN so something like this won't happen again. If there's a gazillion bounties on you and you're being harassed the best and only way to get out of this is too let the steam blow over. Don't try and retaliate and don't plea with them to stop. Youll only make it worse. Believe me. Don't give anyone a reaction. Only use enough meds to get you out of the hospital when you have bountys. Let them collect the bounties until there are no more. Always remember you can travel too. Make some money overseas while you're waiting for this to blow over. Just DONT RESPOND to the people doing this. Change your name. That also might help.
Begging for money will also make you a target.
Joining a faction The social aspect.
Not your personal army.
If your sole purpose is to use your faction as a tool to attack your foes. You're doomed. That isn't even close to the reason why factions exist in this game. However, there are mercenary factions out there that can bounty players you hate and make their life a living hell. Depending on what you pay them. If your starting out your purpose of joining a faction should be to make friends and find people who can help you despite the perks you'll get from the faction. Show your respect and loyalty. Build a relationship and when the time comes they will always have your back.

You will definitely get more respect for being in a faction. Honestly, it's a must to join a faction. If you join one that's highly active in war and chaining then that might be a reason why you're being attacked. The principle is: Never mug an allie or enemy on the wall if your leader tells you to help out. Just leave them. A rogue player will mug though. But if they do, just leave it alone. Don't retaliate back. Other players in your faction have their own problems too. Someone might attack you just because they have beef with your mate. So those might be some reason why you'll still get attacked in a faction. Faction attacks sometimes arent always personal either
Never betray a faction
What do you think will happen if you leave a faction on bad terms? If its really bad terms you might get a beating. Even if some members don't care they'll still put 20 bounties on you for fun. If you disagree with maybe the leader or something. Just make sure you always give a respectful answer. Never leave a faction on bad terms. Don't try and be hated in this game. Its not fun. If your powerful enough then ya it is fun I guess. Also, people hire faction spies. So if that's your thing try it out. Thats something that will get you hated if they find out. But respected by those who paid you.
In reality...
There is a good percentage of people in Torn who always love to help others. Don't be scared to send a nice message about something you don't know. Just say your new. Join a faction. Get friends. The people from my first faction I joined taught me so much. Never try and be a scammer either. It's legal but everyone hates a scammer. Horrible idea. Stay in your own lane. Make your own money and show that your independent.
Lets say you make a thread. Over time the thread will eventually move to the bottom of the list. If your thread is 3 days old and is starting to make its way down the list, someone can make a post in the thread and it will "bump". Giving you a chance for your post to be relevant again. In a nutshell, bumping breathes life into a thread again, and moves to the top of the list
Just out of curiosity, what are the first things you usually do when you first log on in the morning? (Or when ever) Hit the gym first? Travel? Collect a few bounties? Read newspaper comics?
For me when I log in Torn city, the first thing I do is dump my nerve into crimes because its really fast to recharge. Followed by that, I start a race if I know im not gonna be traveling for the day. Then I play wheel of awesome. (The only casino game I really play.) Also check the city for items. Then once everything is done ill travel.
I probably missed alot of important things that should be done. What do you guys consider really important things you should worry about when you first log in? Idk if having a routine in this game makes sense but hey, lets see where this thread goes.
There's this book I got a while ago . Saved it for a long time. The effects tell me the book regenerates double happiness. I'm really upset because I thought it would keep doubling and doubling until you get 99,999 . What book does that?
some people joke around and say Karma is another stat. But it just means nothing really. Its shows that you post in the forums and say things people like.
IMO. I think it's stupid to restart. Even if you have a ton of BS drama. I'm sure it'll go away eventually. There's just no point really. I think the only time one should do that is if you have a really really old account and your stats are super low.

if I hiring someone with really high stats in my mechanic shop. What is the best position to put them at? Should I just make them a normal technician? Or put them as a trainer as it says it would help my working stats.
I see I finally unlocked my first special gym. But I always hear from people to be careful using them. Because you can get locked out permanently. Is that true? How do you locked out? Does it have to do with addiction? Can I take xanax and use the special gyms?
