Once upon a time, the company I worked for was like any other. I kind of treated it like a part time job in real life. something I want to keep an eye on, but not really a big part of my day to day gaming. Voiddrillers II is an younger oil rig company with big dreams. As a player weak on Manual Labor, I was excited to meet Sectory the owner in real life at TornCon Amsterdam. We hit it off and he offered me a job, promising me a manual worker position so I can get my Manual up higher to match Intelligence and Endurance. Honestly, for all the jobs Ive had, I never really paid much attention to the company or the company chat. I sense that most people treat their jobs like this, but I have no evidence one way or the other.
A few days ago, our illustrious employer, Sectory mugged CIAPAS for $1.6M. Not a monumental amount of money by any stretch. Ciapas' reaction was to bounty all of the company employees twice, with the note "Leave company"..... This is very ominous.
So I head over the company chat and I see this has happened to everyone. What followed? A long, interesting and funny discussion, along with all of us describing how we were reacting to it, (I simply put two bounties back on him) ultimately resulting in a very memorable exchange for all of us. We have had fun, laughs and adventures together now, and instead of treating the job as an "aside" its now a fun part of the game I look forward to each time I log in...
Just now, I was thinking to myself, wow this guy actually really helped us out! Look at how we now are are all banding together and having some good banter... just very cool... and really illustrates the dynamic nature of torn and all of the unique new ways to play that pop up from time to time.
I decided to email Ciapis to thank him.... and HE RESPONDED!!!!
I sent:
Salutations and Good Tidings!,
I'm writing to express my most heartfelt and unironic gratitude for the truly remarkable contribution you've recently made to the morale and camaraderie of my company. I mean every word of this with absolute sincerity.
Your decision to pursue bounties on the entirety of our roster — what one might describe as a sweeping, ambitious, and frankly unforgettable act of vengeance — has had the most wonderful and unforeseen effect: it has brought us closer together. Where once we were merely coworkers exchanging the occasional pleasantry, we are now a tight-knit, deeply engaged community, sharing stories, offering mutual support, and laughing harder than we have in weeks. You, sir, have inadvertently become the architect of one of the most spirited and memorable chapters in our company's chat history.
Torn is such a magnificent game — full of intrigue, drama, fortune, and folly — and your reaction to recent events has reminded all of us why we keep coming back. The escalation, the conviction, the sheer theatrical flair of your response: all of it has provided endless amusement and genuine bonding within our ranks. Honestly, we couldn't have scripted a better catalyst for company unity if we had tried.
So please, accept this as a genuine and warm thank-you. You are, in every sense of the word, a solid Tornizen — one whose passion and dedication to the game have enriched the experience of others in ways you may not have intended, but which we are nonetheless deeply grateful for.
Wishing you continued success in your endeavors,
— TheGreatSkeeve
Now, was I being sarcastic.... I guess maybe a little? Overdoing it with the flowery talk a bit... But the root is actually true. and here is his response, short and sweet:
Glad. These are really beautiful words.
I am not some enemy. Simple working man, a family man.
Some your boss actions led to the fact that I had to take some action. But these were never 'll be long-term actions.
Wish you best luck! Enjoy Torn!
Just like all of us, Ciapis seems like a regular guy, trying to play the game as best as he can, taking action against those who he feels offended by. I applaud his play style, his response, and all of you!!!
- I also applaud all of the players who will down vote my post now. I hope some of you will post similar stories about:
How great this game is - How a bad event resulted in good things
- That you want pets back
Thanks for reading!
JC
