Can you use a property's vault in Torn while renting the property rather than living in your own home?

No. The Torn Wiki says the vault upgrade cannot be accessed in rented properties, so a tenant has no vault access[1]. The Estate Agents page gives the same warning to renters[2].

Tenants

The wiki's Property page states that in rented properties the vault upgrade cannot be accessed[1]. The Estate Agents page warns renters that even if a rented property has a vault, they will not have access to it[2]. Players in 2015, 2018 and 2019 threads treat this as known[3][4][5]. A 2014 suggestion asked for tenant access; it was a request, not a change[6].

Your own property while you live elsewhere

You can move into a different property without emptying the old property's vault. The funds stay there until you move back in[7]. The wiki also says you can only use a property's facilities after moving in[8]. Together these suggest the vault is usable only from the property you live in, though the wiki does not say this in so many words for vaults[7][8].

No source states whether an owner can use the vault while a tenant lives in the property; the 2015 and 2018 threads only ask the question[3][4]. A 2018 player said you cannot access the vault of a property you rent, nor of one of your own vacant properties[4].

No patch entry was found that introduces or changes the rule that renters cannot use vaults. The wiki text was captured in July 2025[1].

    You can also move into a different property without removing the funds from your old property's vault. The funds will remain inside that property until you move back in.
    Owners have the ability to share their vault with their spouse. This is disabled by default.
