How can a player increase their nerve in Torn?

Maximum nerve grows through crime experience (natural nerve), merits (up to 10), faction Nerve upgrades (up to 40) and company specials[1]. Current nerve can be restored with drugs, alcohol, a Point refill and a few other sources[2]. The nerve pages are 2020–2021 captures, so details after Crimes 2.0 are not confirmed.

Raising the maximum nerve bar

  • Natural nerve bar (NNB): doing crimes earns crime experience, and at certain milestones the bar grows in increments of 5. Critical fails hurt progress more than other fails.[1][3]
  • Busting others out of jail also adds crime experience and nerve bar size.[1]
  • Merits: up to 10 extra maximum nerve.[1]
  • Faction: each Nerve upgrade in the Criminality branch adds 1, up to 40.[1]
  • Company specials: 5* Amusement Park Unflinching +10, 5* Meat Warehouse Carnage +10, 10* Pub Buzzed +15.[1]
  • The wiki says all bonuses together can expand the bar by up to 65; only the natural part reflects crime experience.[2]

Restoring current nerve

  • The 2021 wiki lists drugs, alcohol, a 30-point refill, the Herbal Releaf Co. stock benefit, the Trick or Treat treat exchange, and spending job points on nerve.[2]
  • The 10* Game Shop special Overpowered gives +1 nerve per job point (along with energy and happiness).[4]
  • Natural regeneration is 1 nerve every 5 minutes per the wiki.[2] A 2019 forum guide said 1 per 10 minutes, or 1 per 5 for donators.[5]

Refill cost: the 2021 wiki says 30 Points[2]; a 2024 log line shows 25 points spent on a Nerve Refill[6]. No source states the current cost or any daily limit. Amounts and cooldowns for nerve drugs and alcohol are not in the sources.

The 5-nerve increments and the 2020 guide's 15 starting nerve are pre-Crimes 2.0 information and may no longer hold.[3][7]
