Armour quality and value
What TornLife's research has established about Armour quality and value, and the questions players asked about it.
What TornLife has verified
- Defense stat also mitigates damage, separate from armor. Against 10,000,000 Strength, 5,000,000 Defense gives 40.00% mitigation, 10,000,000 gives 50.00%, and 140,000,000 gives 100%. (documented; Battle Stats › Stat Weights — Battle Stat Weights, )
- The wiki says armor rating is the percentage of damage reduction: a 40.00 piece cuts damage by 40%, so a 1000 damage hit deals 600. Formula D(A) = D(I) * (1-A/100). (documented; Armor › Armor Ratings, )
- Company perks raise armor: a 10* Clothing Store gives a 20% buff (a 40.00 piece acts as 48.00), and a 7* Private Security Firm gives 25% when wearing a full set (helmet, chest, gloves, pants, boots). (documented; Armor › Armor Ratings, )
- Developer Chedburn announced in January 2018 that armor mitigation was reduced on a new scaling system, and all attacking damage was cut 25% to compensate. Unique values became positive-only (at least base value). Unique armor increases changed to 0-5 instead of 0-10% of base. A Quality percentage was to be trialled: 0-25% common, 75%+ incredibly rare. (confirmed by Torn; Armor & Weapon unique value changes, )
- Mission rewards labelled high quality are generated as 100 variants and the best is credited, giving a '1 in 100' quality level. (documented; Mission › Introduction › Mission credits, )
