Parry mechanic
What TornLife's research has established about Parry mechanic, and the questions players asked about it.
What TornLife has verified
- Torn staff (CloudJumper) stated Parry requires the defender to select/use the weapon on the same turn the incoming melee hit occurs, and the opponent must also be using a melee weapon on that turn, for Parry to have a chance to proc — not on the turn after the weapon was previously used. (confirmed by Torn; Rank War Weapons Parry, )
- The Torn Wiki lists Parry as a General weapon bonus available on Slashing (SL) weapons, classified as an Enemy Debuff giving a chance to block incoming melee attacks, with a bonus range of 50-77%. (documented; Weapon Bonus › Bonus List › General Bonuses — Weapon Bonuses (rows 2/3), )
- Staff confirmed in a separate bug report that Parry only works if the defender actually uses the parry weapon on that same turn to defend; if the defender's turn is skipped (e.g. from being distracted), Parry cannot proc because the weapon was not used that turn. (confirmed by Torn; Parry not proccing in group fights, )
- A player's parry weapon failed to proc because they were defaulting to attacking with a different weapon (PKM) on most turns; staff confirmed Parry cannot proc on a turn where another weapon is used instead of the parry weapon. (confirmed by Torn; Rank War Weapons Parry, )
- A bug where Parry procced against an attacker who had been Shocked (and so should not have been able to use melee that turn) was reported to staff in October 2024 and confirmed fixed by staff in a June 2026 follow-up post, indicating staff actively maintain and correct parry-timing edge cases. (confirmed by Torn; Parry procs when Shocked, )
- Separately from the Rock Paper Scissors event, the Torn Wiki documents a cyclical-style effectiveness ordering among three special ammo types (HP, Incendiary, Piercing) versus Regular ammo, where which ammo type is "best" changes depending on the target's armor value, rather than a fixed rock-paper-scissors triangle. (documented; Ammo › Special Ammo › Effectiveness, )
