This post is more geared towards newer people, or anyone who has never been around during Elimination and is interested in it.
Most folks already know if they'll be competing or not, but some don't. It's not surprising because it's a tough choice. I'll be going over some of the bad and good about the competition. Hopefully it'll help with that decision and others can post with their experiences.
Elimination is a fighting team competition. I cannot stress this enough. Now while the team aspect might sound great, you get to meet people and all of that, remember, you are also part of that team. You will be expected to contribute and be a team player.
Warning: there are always people who do not contribute. Always. Your job is to do your best to not be one of those people.
This is made very difficult because there are eleven other teams besides yours. And they are all fighting you.
You willbe in the hospital constantly. It will be your new home for this month. That is not hyperbole. That is fact.
As long as your team is in the competition, you will be in the hospital. You will med out, do attacks and likely already be back in the hospital before you run out of energy. Your teammates will not care about this. They will remind you, as I said, this is a fighting competition. They will toss you a few medical items and tell you to get moving.
There is no leaving the competition, once you join. You are locked in for the duration of your team's ability to stay in the competition. It is a long few weeks when you are in the hospital constantly.
Elimination also is surrounded by drama. Always. Drama around lag, cheaters, alliances... you name it, it'll likely come up. Elimination is a drama-fest.
Now, with the bad stuff said, Elimination can be fun. You will learn a lot about Torn, the other people on it, the fighting system and techniques. The fights can be fun and you have a whole team cheering you on and helping you out, you have jokes and camaraderie--basically everything that really shows you the awesome side of the social aspect in Torn. You have your people that take it too seriously but honestly, you can just ignore them.
So--if you join the competition, good luck! If not, see you on the sidelines!
Torn education isn't like real life education. You don't take tests or quizzes here. It's also not like it because if you fail in Torn, no one lectures you, punishes you or hits you like your parents would.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to have a glass of wine or three.
To keep it simple and sweet... Torn has 44 books, but absolutely no magazines!
A magazine could have similar effects to books but be far shorter--perhaps a week instead of the month that books have. They could be mission rewards, quest tokens, city finds... heck, if the programmers feel like crafting a "Literature" course in General Education and creating a bookshop, they could even one day be a bought item.
Mmm, sites and bites trip. What kind of sites are you thinking of? That might be able to help in determining the general area and then the food choices can be narrowed down from there for regional tastes.
It's cold here so generally soups for me. A good broth, protein and veggies, with the occasional starch like rice or noodles if you want. It's tasty, filling and generally pretty good with calories if you go heavier with vegetables instead of starches.
One of my friends had to go on a low FODMAP diet. It was a bit of a nightmare because she spent a great deal of time complaining about how the food wasn't the same.
Anyway, veggie noodles might be your best friend for a bit. They're NOT like normal ones, so ignore the websites saying they are, cause they LIE. But they work well enough--at least zucchini & squash do, haven't tried carrot--and are an easy side to have with the lighter proteins you can have on the low FODMAP diet like poultry/seafood. .
Just remember though, the restrictions are only for a bit, so while frustrating, it has an end!
It really depends on which red meat/style of cut and what dish is being made.
Even if we're just using beef as the red meat, meals like a stew is generally well done because of the long time simmering while other specific cuts like redeye or filet mignon are fine in the rare to medium, or even tartare for the raw ground meat folks.
Why does everything you cook look so amazing? I love the idea of those sorts of kits, I'll have to see if there's anything similar here since I've always just used sauce from jars for Indian style curry at home!
Oh, that stuff. Most of it is pretty niche, but it's good for disaster prep.
Bacon isn't even the oddest of the things. There's whole chicken in a can, canned cheese, canned creamed armadillo, canned hamburgers--you name it, odds are there's a canned or freeze dried version of it.
I love your videos, they're so interesting. And the curries always look so delicious! I wonder, does burning the chicken not only clean off the feather bits, but maybe adds a bit of char flavor too??
I mean, the whole "words have meaning, names have power" belief does have a small bit of grounding in reality.
Everyone's had arguments with people they care about that can hurt more than physical attacks. And with names, when someone shouts it on a crowded street or something, generally you turn immediately or at the least look around to see if the person meant you or just a name you share with someone else.
I don't think that's what the video's talking about, though.
Sounds like what people say about the Wilds out in Western PA. Sightings of Thunderbirds, Bigfoot(feet?), river monsters, that sort of thing. Same for the Pine Barrens nearby in NJ, with the Jersey Devil and the like.
I've generally not placed much stock in them since most of the photos and stories are generally from before the cell phone and drone era. In a day and age when everyone has a camera or can fly drones with cameras all over these areas, there really hasn't been much said about any of these local folklore being real. Still, it's always fun to think about!
The link for the lemon cakes is here. I have the cookbook(s), so I'm not sure if the recipe was changed slightly, but it was really cute and tasty. I hope you like it as much as we did, just be warned if you use a muffin tin like I did, they'll puff up so if you want them to stand straight on their own, you'll have to cut the round bit. Since it's on the bottom, nobody really noticed.
It's a great quality of life suggestion. Plus those that would like it have it and those that don't literally never have to. I don't see an issue at all. Good luck with getting it passed!
Hm. I've been throwing veggies into smoothies, on "pizzas" (flatbreads with sauce, bit of cheese and veggies/proteins) and whatever eggy thing I've made like omelets, quiche, frittata etc.
Some folks I know also puree the veggies and toss them into basically whatever they're cooking--like some spinach puree in meatballs and carrot/squash in mac & cheese--but that might need some experimenting on your end to see what combinations work best for you guys.
One of my hobbies when I have time is recreating recipes from shows/books/etc from all the things online. I was working my way through Game of Thrones recipes--my favorite so far from it are the lemon cakes from the Geeky Chef's recipe! They're not the most "authentic" but they were really tasty and definitely worth a try if you like lemon cakes :)
A veal wellington sounds delightful, though honestly, wrapped in puff pastry with the mushroom rub mix, nearly anything is really good. One of my friends loves salmon wellington for that reason.
