I have seen some rather... discouraging takes on global regarding the recent events that took/are taking place in Russia and Ukraine.
I am not Russian myself, however my fiance is Russian and I hope to bring her to this game in the near future. If trends that I have seen recently continue I may not recommend this game to her as she could potentially be subject to harassment and ridicule by members of torn.
Before I state anything else, I myself stand with the people of Ukraine as well as my fiance, we have both donated to charities helping the people and would love if you guys do the same. (You can view a few charities to donate to in Sugarvalves article here if you are unsure where to go.
This next sentence is key to the entire point of my thread,
Russians are not the culprit, the Russian Government has instigated these attacks.
Russia is much like China, extreme censorship of information is a huge part of how their government survives. Speaking out against the government has lead to many journalists "mysteriously disappearing" within the next couple years. Yes there are Russians who support Putin and fully want him to take over Ukraine, however much like in World War 2 with the german army, the majority of Russians are uninformed on the events taking place.
The world has a terrible history of making generalizations of groups based off the opinions of those in control.
You have a full right to be upset with the acts that are taking place, but generalizing the actions of a few, on entire group of people... is not a way to approach it.
How it links to Torn
I would love to see torn become a more diverse game with many different cultures and countries represented, however we as a community need to be accepting to all and put ourselves in others shoes before assuming the worst. Creating an environment of hate toward a group is a fast-track way to discourage diversity in the game and I believe most dedicated players want to see this game continue to grow.
So please, support Ukraine with all your hearts, but don't bring hate to the table for those who don't deserve it... we already have enough hate in the world and torn... more hate will not help the situation.
With love to the torn community,
Quack
P.S. Im gonna be honest I think this relates to torn so I decided to post it in general, if a mod thinks its better suited in another section feel free to move it.
Apologies, Faction A would get to Early discharge members of Faction B, instead of only faction B being able to discharge themselves whenever they want, faction A would also have the option to early discharge the members of faction B if they were hit by outsiders.
Sorry I didn't have enough coffee today when attempting to come up with a solution...
Yes, if ranked warring is supposed to be completely separate from outside hitting (as Early discharge makes be believe staff intends to happen), that is exactly what I think should be added.
Early discharge was recently added, if y'all don't know what it is, it allows you to get out of the hospital early if you were attacked by an outside party during ranked war. This mitigates outside influence on war but does not solve the problem completely.
In war players can still abuse the bounty system by placing bounties on their own members so they can't be attacked at all by the opposing faction. If the goal of Ranked war is to be completely separate from outside influence then I believe this change needs to be made.
The Change...
Allow Early Discharge to be used by the enemy faction during ranked war.
For example
If 10 lower level players had been attacked by outside players and were in the hospital for 3 hours, early discharge could be used by the other faction to allow them to be attacked and make outside influence on the ranked war negligible.
The current change fixed the issue of players being spam attacked to keep them hospitalized by outside members, however it does not solve the problem of players being bountied intentionally to keep them hospitalized so they can't be attacked.
How it works NOW:
Faction A: Places bounties on their own low stats members Outsider: Attacks member of Faction A and hospitalizes them Faction B: Unable to attack member of Faction A and gain respect off them.
How it would work:
Faction A: Places bounties on their own low stats members Outsider: Attacks member of Faction A and hospitalizes them Faction B: Early Discharges member of Faction A that is in hospital Faction B: Able to attack member of opposing faction and gain respect as normal.
How it works example by Elizabeth:
So if, hypothetically speaking, Monarch in a war and PT hit the early discharge requirement and had a bunch of members in the hosp (by outsiders), any old Monarch member could click a button and force one of the PT members hit by an outside hit to leave the hospital immediately.
