An ongoing investigation into the
shooting death of a 16-year-old boy allegedly by his younger sisters has revealed startling allegations of abuse.
Police say the 15-year-old Florida girl accused of fatally shooting her brother suffered years of abuse, according to a heavily redacted incident report obtained by HLN.
According to court records, the girls uncle was charged with sexual battery and unlawful sex with a minor in 2010 after allegedly raping the girl, who was 11 years old at the time.
The following year, the girls mother told police she caught the girl having sexual intercourse with her brother, investigators said in the incident report.
The girl now faces premeditated murder charges for the January 5 death of that brother. Her 11-year-old sister is also facing charges for assisting with the crime, according to police.
The 15-year-old told police she shot her brother because he beat her and kept her locked in her room all day, investigators said.
According to authorities, the 16-year-old boy served as a caretaker for his three younger siblings when his parents were working out of town.
On the day of his death, the 15-year-old told police she woke up and overheard her parents talking to her brother about going out of town.
The parents allegedly told the teenage boy to just keep [the girl] locked in her room and keep an eye on the other sisters, police said in the incident report.
While the boy was sleeping, the 15-year-old asked her 11-year-old sister to unlock her door and retrieved a 9mm handgun locked in their parents bedroom, authorities said in a police report.
The 15-year-old then told her 11-year-old and 3-year-old sisters to hide in the closet while she shot the boy, the incident report reveals.
Officers said the girl pointed the gun at her brother, turned her head, and pulled the trigger.
When police arrived to the White Springs house last Monday night, deputies found the teenage boy dead on the living room floor with a suspected gunshot wound to the neck, a police press release states.
The shooting is estimated to have occurred three to four hours prior to the discovery, police said.
The girl told investigators her brother yelled help, help after being shot, according to the police report.
According to authorities, the 3-year-old sister continuously tried to wake up her dead brother after the shooting.
The 3-year-old remains in custody of the Department of Children and Families.
During the initial investigation, the older girls described being mistreated by their parents.
The 11-year-old told police that they dont get much food and its usually whatever is left over when her parents are finished eating, officers said in the incident report.
The parents often locked the 15-year-old girl in her room as punishment for talking back and stealing from them, authorities said.
According to officers, the only items in the girls room were a blanket and a bucket to urinate in.
The girls father told police the longest time he kept her locked in her room was 20 days, the incident report states.
According to court documents, the girl made previous attempts at ending her life but neither law enforcement nor emergency management services were notified.
The parents said they believed they had done everything possible to help the girl with her behavior problems, according to police.
This is the stuff nightmares are made of, Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter said during a press conference.
Theres going to be one-hundred thousand whys -- we may never know why the child acted out like this, he added.
While police have identified the girls, HLN is withholding their names since they are minors.
Attempts by HLN to obtain comment from their attorneys have been unsuccessful.
The girls made their first appearance in court last week and were ordered to be detained in juvenile detention for the next 30 days, Columbia County State Attorney Jeff Siegmeister said.
Seigmeister announced that he will decide what his next move is during those 30 days. He has not yet decided whether he will try the girls as adults.
All information, including family incidents and allegations of abuse, will be considered when making a decision, Seigmeister said during the press conference.
The girls parents have been charged with child neglect. They remain in the Columbia County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.
Court officials indicate that the parents will be appointed private counsel later this week
