DUDE announces a PT-side alliance to break Relentless's chain, and the forum piles in

A chain, a thread and a taunt

DUDE [1028023] started the thread "Relentless chain Ruined (Relentless speaks)" in the Faction Discussion board on 08 Mar 2018.^[1][2]

The opening post announced a new alliance. It said TDT, the PT family and JFK were helping PT to break the Relentless chain "right now as we speak". DUDE wrote it as speaking for PT, TDT and JFK.^[2]

By the archive's last fetch the thread had 291 replies and 6,328 views. Ninety-seven players posted in it, and nine of the posts were by Torn staff, officers or moderators.^[1]

Updates and the PT side of the story

DUDE added updates to the opening post. One said "WORD ON THE STREET- RELENTLESS GAVE UP AND DECIDED NOT TO HIT BACK". Another said PT were taking back a territory that was rightfully theirs, "nothing personal". Participant claim^[2]

A further update said PT accused Relentless of mistreating their members and forcing them to use their own meds and points for wars. Allegation^[2]

thestud [1654931] replied with a long account. They said their side was at 7k when the 25k chain was released and was 24k respect short of unlocking it. They said they attacked other PT group territory blocks and gave up some of their own prime territories, which Relentless took. They said Relentless leadership answered a request for the blocks back with "you can attack us... we're expecting you to attack for the blocks". Participant claim^[3]

daCampa [169777] told a poster they were Relentless's sub. They wrote: "If you're a sub when it's convenient, you're a sub when it's not." In a later post they wrote: "At least we don't have a sub declaring independence midwar eh?"^[4][5]

daCampa also posted an image captioned "Taking that territory twice to be on the safe side". In another post they congratulated DUDE "on breaking their chain by yourself".^[6][7]

Evil-Duck [1182047] wrote "broke at 14.5k... Relentless are WORSE than JFA". Another of their posts told a bicycle joke about Relentless's chain breaking. Joke^[8][9]

Jibes, sympathy and staff comments

boo [1544641] thanked Relentless/Unrelenting sarcastically for "stepping up to the plate" as a faction for the community to laugh at, and called their posting "whining".^[10]

Some posters criticised the attack. VeteranDemon [457059] asked "Would you punish a child for the parents mistakes?" Madoza [2097148] called hospitalising a faction's sub "pretty lame". That post was quoted by four later posts.^[11][12]

beatch [1492104] asked if that was why Relentless "had to get a load of guests to help them". Qert [2075642] posted a mock faction chat about members being hospitalised because of the main faction's war.^[13][14]

Smokey123 [248901] asked "Who is this Dude guy?" DUDE replied "Who are you? Never heard of you or your faction Noob". Champion [1927067] wrote that there was too much punctuation for it to be the real dirtydog, and said they had reported it for selling account. Joke^[15][16][17]

Officer Penicillin [1517799] wrote that they were a little disappointed Champion was not on the thread first. Officer megalomaniacal [1542618] wrote that it sucked for Relentless but that they had a hard time feeling sympathy for a faction that continuously targets someone who helped their 10k chain in order to build their 25k one.^[18][19]

Admin CloudJumper [1636201] wrote that the Relentless members could not see the thread, adding "Do not forget who is the original poster". Officer Sky [380980] wrote "Well said daCampa. Good thread dude". In a later post, Sky told DUDE they had valid complaints but that their responses would encourage continued bullying, and that they needed better diplomacy.^[20][21][22]

Later references

On 13 Mar 2018 DUDE started "Rise Above Hate" in General Discussion and linked this thread there. DUDE wrote that they had received abusive messages, death threats and bounty threats. Participant claim^[23][24]

CRLF [2095076] listed the thread in a review of 2018 forum threads posted on 31 Dec 2018, with 291 replies and a karma of 42. CRLF listed it again in "Bad Boys Do Good" on 06 May 2019, among posts by players known for shit-posting.^[25][26][27]
