a script was submitted, and like within a few hours, it was deemed illegal, so the team immediately messaged everyone to stop using it.

iirc the "illegal" part was just some autoscrolling function because the target pages are "infinite" pages so autoscrolling is technically not a player input.  which is to say, some technicality that wasn't actually providing any undue advantage.

i never installed the script myself, but to my knowledge, the team acted to immediately get everyone to uninstall it once staff made that call.  pretty sure all of this happened while i was asleep, so anything i say is second hand understanding.

My vote:

Disallow double energy refills, but allow the E refill to be spent on a second Nerve or Casino refill.  I think double E refills is too strong and would become standard almost immediately.

I like the idea of letting you spend the E refill elsewhere, but do not like the idea of getting 2x E refills per day.

 I stopped reading at "J6 wasn't violent" tbh.  That this even was allowed to be whitewashed as anything other than a violent coup attempt is disgusting.  

Your side is the side that believes in and supports political violence, only demanding sympathy once it spills over and impacts your side - in all other cases, you mock the violence and declare empathy itself is a disease, as exemplified by the words of Charlie Kirk himself.

To be clear.  This "both sides" whitewashing is utter horseshit.

It's a crime game, where this sort of playstyle is allowed.  But way more people have been on the receiving end of this strategy than there are folks dedicated to it as a playstyle through the game.  We understand that it's an annoyance we have to deal with, but it's still annoying, and so of course the general attitude isn't going to be anything other than negativity towards the behavior.

When you couple that with some subset of mugging players using scripts of questionable legitimacy to gain an unfair edge, that annoyance boils over to outrage.

Yeah, max deposit is two clicks, initiating an attack and mugging someone is way more than that.  The mug being executed in 1 sec is waaaay more sus than the deposit, lol.

Like, when they go to bed for the night?  Yeah?  CR not being skilled enough to mug people who are online is unsurprising, though.

Probably shouldn't do cashier's checks though.  Probably pay it out and then "mug decay" it.  So someone who hasn't logged in for a week can still be looted.  Also makes it a gambling game between muggers - do you get in now, or wait a bit for a bigger payout, knowing someone else can beat you to the punch?

You can ban the activity even without an efficient way to detect, while additionally exploring technology options to block or detect this activity.  Difficulty of enforcement shouldn't necessarily mean that it shouldn't be a rule.

As far as mitigation goes, I would suggest, fast moving and inexpensive items should probably be kept close to a "live feed," but slow, expensive things, should get a 30 second delay before the live feed is updated (to match the API call restriction) and if someone actively tries to buy an item that was already bought (which requires an actual interaction with the page) to then alert them that it was already bought and remove the listing from that user's view.

This can be done with a formula I think, just use the average time between sales, and if it's over 30 seconds, then impose the 30 second buffer.

I think another neat option would be to apply mitigation strategies (mug-decay timers, cashier's checks, etc) to offline users only, to give them a fighting chance, but let the online sellers fend for themselves.  That way, you don't simply kill buy-mugging, but you also make it more of a competitive game between seller and mugger.

1) Join a faction, you'll keep hearing everyone say this, because it makes the experience a billion times more worthwhile.  They will help guide you, and usually you will have access to free meds, etc, as long as you're an active participant in that faction.  They will help you, they will make life easier.
2) People in this game gonna get pissy, you're gonna get bounties, it happens.  Best to ignore and, erm, not create threads about it, and they will eventually get bored.  Or maybe they're the particular kind of loser who won't, I've dealt with those before, in which case, see point (1), join a faction.  As long as it isn't your fault for stirring up drama.
3) Doesn't look like you're too deep in it yet, looks like you're just having your first taste of how rough this place is.  This is a multiplayer game, not single player.  There's nice people, and there's jerks.  See point (1), join a faction with nice people in it.  Build relationships and friendships and allies.  You will need them.

If Stig has gained API keys from people who didn't agree to his TOS and then proceeded to use them to mine data for his own ends, then this is an equivalent situation and should be addressed.  I don't aim to hold them to different standards.  I was under the impression that Stig's scheme properly communicated his TOS.  I haven't looked into it, and don't feel like it.  But if he didn't, then that's wrong.
