Hank disputes Chedburn's reversal of WSSB stock profits

A thread about a reversal

Hank [1732212] started the thread "WSSBGate a Kangaroo Court decision by Ched" in General Discussion on 07 Jan 2017. It ran until 14 Feb 2017 and drew 613 replies, 11,439 views and posts from 137 different players.^[1][2]

In the opening post Hank alleged that Chedburn [1] was pumping out myths about an upward trend caused by insider trading, to cover for Chedburn and for the developers who tweaked the WSSB pattern. Allegation^[2]

Chedburn, a Torn developer, replied the same day that WSSB was a big mess and impossible to determine in full. Chedburn wrote that the period was therefore reversed, so any profits made in the window were nullified.^[3]

Hank and Chedburn argue it out

Hank set out how they understood the stock market. Hank said stock patterns follow a wave and that trends are not caused by buying or selling. As an example Hank said IIL was worth $140 per share in mid October and around $65 per share at the time of writing. Participant claim^[2]

Chedburn wrote that an explanation could have been asked of Hank, but that Hank was in the committee at the time and started buying shares the day after Chedburn posted a thread. Hank replied that they were never on the committee. Chedburn answered that they had presumed otherwise and had no easy way of checking.^[3][4][5]

Hank wrote that the reversal removed profits made months later as well. Hank said they lost 6% on reinvested profits, equivalent to 7-8b on PRN, and that Chedburn was taking 80% of their networth. Hank also said players had built dirty bombs, used stat enhancers and bought collectables on the basis of those profits. Participant claim^[4]

Chedburn wrote that there were two options: leave everything as it was, or reverse the profit made during the window. Chedburn agreed it was not ideal and was unfair, and said innocent traders may have been caught up in it.^[5]

Chedburn wrote that no one had been punished and that only some 'too good to be true' profits were reversed. Chedburn said a suspicious and large wealth transaction on a single player was followed and linked back to the WSSB window, and that the committee were not involved in the decisions.^[6][7]

Chedburn wrote that all profits in the window were reversed regardless of stated investment reasons. The only other option, Chedburn said, was to treat everyone who invested in the window as innocent.^[8]

Insults, jokes and counter-proposals

Champion [1927067] wrote that they had not read all of Hank's post, and alleged that Hank's faction was a "little bitch faction of script abusers" who would get no sympathy. Allegation^[9]

arrow [2024586] asked a crude question about whether Chedburn had smacked or grabbed the backside of a player addressed as Nash. Joke^[10]

MarlonBrando [1337797] wrote that Hank was telling the truth and was honest, and that Hank's word was their bond. Participant claim^[11]

Jas [522441] proposed adjusting affected players' buy prices to where WSSB stood after the window, rather than removing all profits.^[12]

Alexstrasza [1825532] argued that they and others held the stock for months after the new benefit was made public, and were entitled to the profit made after that change became public. Participant claim^[13]

mug [553318], a Torn officer/committee member, wrote that Chedburn handled it badly. mug alleged that some players were still using reversed money, and named several other committee members as shady. Allegation^[14][15]

Jammy_Git [259767] accused the posters in the thread of being a cheating bunch, and wrote that a player named HowsRat had been feeding them information. Allegation^[16]

On 08 Jan 2017 Chedburn wrote that the choice was between letting potential cheaters profit or reverting the suspicious window. Chedburn added that it was possible no cheating had taken place.^[17]

Spin-off threads and later links

CindyFury [345050] started a thread on 07 Jan 2017 claiming the WSSB cash was still in the game. They named Hank and BraveKath [1815519] as an example and alleged that money was moved to a friend to invest. Allegation^[18]

On 08 Jan 2017 Alexstrasza filed a Bugs & Issues report titled "WSSB Profit Deduction Adjustment". They said the window ran from the 9th July until the 29th July and that Chedburn's script removed more than that. They said they were owed a refund of $113,730,492,236. Participant claim^[19][20]

Later players linked the thread as reading on stocks. Hopslam [795412] pointed to it in July 2017, November 2017, February 2020 and June 2020, crediting Hank for graphs and calling it a read on the stock market.^{[21][22][23][24]}
